~ LOCAL EVENTS ~ Jeromy Buehl won both motos in the - Action Sports Supercross 125cc Pro class. Monty Harris (4) led Ryan Leach (23) and Dan Ulven (505) in the combined 250cc Intermediatell25cc Pro class at Albany SX. as visibility would allow until he fell midway through the first lap. Jerry Hemann and Jim Stanfield overtook Leivan, and Hemann caught Busenbark on the second lap. Hemann's lead was short-lived, however, as he was forced to drop out when his front tire disintegrated after hitting a tree stump hidden in the dust. Busenbark regained the lead and rode uncontested for a total of five laps to earn the overall win. Leivan clinched the series title for this season with the points he gained for his second overall finish. Third overall went to Stanfield. Ricky Horton ran a wire-to-wire win in the Intermediate class and finished fourth overall, while second place Intermediate Tim Gilliland rounded out the top five. Obstacles hidden in the dust played havoc with many tires, as was evident by the fact that the top five finishers in the Open class all were pla~ed by flats. Pat Schmidt ran away with the lead in the 125cc class while Ken Yount fought his way from fourth to finish second. Dave Ryan did the near impossible task of coming from 10th to claim third at the finish line. Results O/A; I. Chad BU-""'bark (Yam); 2. SteVe Leivan (Yam); 3. Jim Stanfield (KTM); 4. Bren bags Portland MX win By Don Schneider 42 PORTLAND, OR, AUG. 20 Mike Bren won the 250cc Junior division at round 18 of the MXNW sanctioned Thursday Night Motocross at Portland International Raceway. The Pro Caliber-backed KTM rider had the fastest clutch hand in moto one, taking the early lead. Sitting in second through fifth were Matt Stotts, Rob Williams, Wayne Anderson and Tony Coca. Williams blitzed by Stotts on lap two and set out after Bren, who had a mistake free ride and held on for the win. Williams fended off the assault of Stotts to finish second. Moto two's holeshot also went to Bren. Williams was off the gate much better and was eating Bren's roost entering turn one. Third-place Neeley couldn't hold off a pesky Coca, who berserked it by him in a left-hander, only to qash over the following jump. Up front, Bren was IlPt about to let the charging Williams by, and crossed the line with inches to spare for the win. Anderson and Neeley also battled down to the wire, with Anderson nabbing third. In moto one of the combined 125cc Pro Intermediate class, Jason McCormick took the early lead. Eric Graves was off the line in second, but slowly fell back to midpack. Lou Caulkins and Forrest Transue had a battle that raged throu~hout the entire mOlD, with Transue sconng the win in the Intermediate class. But up front was where the crowd was watching, as McCormick was the only rider of the evening to clear the 85-foot doublejump on the far side of the track. McCormick easily won the mOlo overall. In moto two McCormick followed Transue for one lap and then blitzed by for the lead just after the tower jump. Tim Holas was off the gate in third, followed by Caulkins, Ernie Gendron and Adam West. Transue tried to matCh the leaders' speed for three laps and then backed off. Caulkins moved into third overall at the end of the same lap, holding the position over Holas to the finish. McCormick again scored the easy win. Results P/W: J. Tyler Fick (Vam); 2. Sean Carroll (Vam); 3. jerimiah Hesler (Vam); 4. Charles Nelson (Iti); 5_ Adam Hohgn:w (Yam). 60 6-8: J.
