Brouhard blasts Cambridge ST By Tim McBride CAMBRIDGE, MN, AUG. 29 Faribault Harley-Davidson/Julie B. Racingsponsored Eric Brouhard cruised to victory in the Open Pro class main event at the final round of the Dirt Track Riders Association's Summer Saturday Night Short Track Series, held at the Isanti County Fairgrounds_ Heat race winner Billy Hoffiniester sat on the pole for the 12-lap main, but Brouhard turned the tables and nailed the holeshot. Brouhard led the fray down the back straight ahead of Hoffmiester, Norb Gregory, Kurt Boelke and Steve Hill. Boelk~ slid by Gregory after the. completion of lap two and focused on Hoffmiester, who in turn was glued to Brouhard's back tire. At the halfway point, Brouhard broke away from Hoffmiester and on lap eight Gregory pitched his Honda away hard in turn two. Gregory was shaken, but unhurt. Meanwhile, Boelke closed on an unsuspecting Hoffmiester, and on the next to last lap slipped Hoffmiester to finish second. "I was working on Eric and the next thing I knew, Kurt was right there!" exclaimed Hoffmiester. Brouhard went on to win with Boelke, Hoffmiester and Hill in tow. "I knew if I could get a good start I could hold them off," said an elated Brouhard. The win was Brouhard's first of the'series. Tim Gregory was also having a big night. After topping the 250cc B class final, Gregory set his sights on the Open B class. Lined up next to Gregory at the start of the main were heat race winners Dave Peterson and Tony Kohner. After the dust settled, Gregory was out front followed by Buzz Arndt, Tony Kohner, Peterson, Bob Kohner, Greg Conczy, Keith Raveling, Mike Vogel, and Joe Blackwell. Gregory sailed to victory, with the only change in running order coming on the last lap as Kohner slid by Arndt for the runner-up spot. Two heats set the stage for the Beginner class final. Heat winners Jeff Melbrandt and Todd Johnson were ready, but it was Jerry Koch off the line first with Johnson and Melbrandt in his wake. Johnson kept the pressure on and was rewarded on lap three when Koch bobbled in turn four, allowing Johnson to scoot by. Johnson sped to victory with Koch, Melbrandt, Jim Eastlee, and Marcus Bauer close behind. Bel.Ray. Antelope Valley Kawasaki/Yamahasponsored Joshua Jenkins swept both L25cc Beginner class motos to score a convincing win in round one of the California Racing Club's 15th Annual Tri-Race Series, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. Jenkins stayed ahead of the battle for second place between Danny Bushey and Ross Devlin to collect the first moto win. Brian McCormick had his hands full holding of[ Brian Rush to finish fourth. As the riders completed the first lap of moto two, Jenkins held the lead ahead of Bushey, Devlin and Rush. McCormick was making up ground after a mid-pack start and fought his way up to fourth on the third lap. It was Jenkins all alone out front at the checkered £lag. Devlin finished a lonely second, while Bushey stalled his bike, allowing McCormick to finish third. Russ Wal1;eman ran away.and hid in both Dwck Out Matarcyc" R..... Skills Traini.....
