Venegas took the lead away from Jesse Ochoa on lap six in the Handicap main event, only to have Oxley return the favor on the last lap. Ochoa claimed the initial lead, taking the gate and entering the first rum ahead of fellow !lO-yard handicapper Ronnie Kemp. Venegas, Oxley and Faria, from the 50-yard line, also made shon work of Kemp and fell in behind Ochoa. The freight train continued in that fashion until the final two laps when Venegas and Oxley made their moves. Fishback and Laidlaw continued their personal battle in the special Harley-Davidson series: Laidlaw set the initial pace that found him leading the Super Final right up to the, last turn, when Fishback pulled out the stops and dove inside the lanky rider to steal the win.
