suddenly found himseU in front with Bill
Linn hot on his heels. Linn kept the heat
on Lukezich trying his hardest to get by.
Lukezich held. Linn off for a lap then Linn
made the pass. Back in seventh was Kirk trying
to make up time for his wrong tum start.
Shortly after the completion of lap one,
Linn made the big pass, putting Lukezich
back to second. Craig Heimgartner, Joel
Nowakoski, Rainio and Kirk had a fierce
battle going on for third through sixth.
Heimgartner Q.uickly disposed of Lukezich
and set after Linn. Nowakoski put the head
on Lukezich, trying for the big pass up Devil's
Drop only to crash at the top. He dropped
out for the day with a bruised shoulder.
Meanwhile, Kirk and Rainio chased Lukezich. Kirk managed to get by Lukezich for
third. At the checkered flag, it was Linn with
a comfortable lead over Heimgartner, Kirk,
Lukezich and·Rainio.
The second moto saw Kirk pull the holeshot
again, only this time he took the correct turn
and stayed in front. Linn, Allen Toetly,
Heimgartner and Lukezich completed the top
five. Kirk more or less just ran off with the
moto. Linn maintained a secure second.
Toetly, Heim~tner and Lukezich had a
fierce battle gomg on for third through fifth.
Toetly slid out letting -Heimgartner and
Lukezich by. Toetly quickly remounted in
fifth. Lukezich kept the heat on Heimgartner
trying everyihing to get by. Heimgartner left
the door open and Lukezich took advantage
of it slipping by for third.
Meanwhile, back in the pack, Toetly and
Rainio were dicing it out for fifth, with Rainio
getting the upper hand. At the end it was Kirk
winning the moto, with Linn, Lukezich,
Heimgartner and Rainio roundin~out the top
five. Linn's 1-2 finish topped Kirk's 3-1 for
first overall.
