and Jensen dove to the inside and had a clear line in front of him. Then his fron t tire washed out and threw him to the ground. Turner used this to close on Gergel and took a shot for the lead, only to come up short on the rockers when he fell. Quickly underway again, Turner held onto the number two slot. Johndrow pulled to within striking range but couldn't capital"ze on Turner's error. With the whi e £lag out Gergel handed the lead over to Turner when he lost contol in the whoops. Turner was followed across the finish line by Jensen, Gergel, Johndrow and Walker, in that order. Moto two saw a new leader in the form of Johndrow, who pulled a picture perfect holeshot by leading the pack by a couple of bike lengths into turn one. Jensen gated second followed by Turner, Gergel and Walker. The action quickly heated up with the front two riders pulling away from the pack, as Jensen tried different lines in an attempt to gel by Johndrow. The new line looked as if it might work when Jensen got stung by the whoops, high-centering his motorcycle. He was on his way almost immediately and was maybe too eager, as he washed out in the following turn. Second row belonged to Turner, or so he thought when Gergel jumped over and past the Suzuki rider. The two riders began to push each other, while reeling in Johndrow within two laps. Gergel not satisfied with second, went for the lead only to fall victim to the same whoop section that claimed him in moto one. . Johndrow took the white £lag, and with half a lap to go, went down, exhausted, handing the lead to Turner, who cruised in to take the win. He was followed across the finish line by Jensen, Gergel and a very tired Johndrow. Jeff Stanton Results P/W: I. Kevin Folgheraitor (Yam). 60: I. Chris Hunsinger (Kaw); 2. John Thompson (Kaw); 3. PASCAL PICOTTE Bennett blasts to Cydeland Motocross win AMA SuperTwins Champion By Michael Rich CHICO, CA, JULY 31 Suzuki-mounted Mike Bennett used consistency and a little bit of luck to secure his first win of the season in the 125cc Novice class at Chico's Cycleland Speedway. D.]. Chartier had the quickest clutch hand as the pack shot off the line in the first moto. By the time the pack had reached the hill jump, Darrel Wahl moved into the lead followed closely by Chartier and Mark Cooper. Bennett was way back in fifth. As the riders completed the first lap, Cooper took an inside line and passed Cartier over the doubles. Within two turns, Cooper was on Wahl and made the pass for the lead over the tabletop. Meanwhile, Bennett moved into second, only to stall his engine in a hairpin and allow Wahl an.d Chartier to repass him. Once he had restarted, it took Bennett a couple of laps to run down Chartier. Bennett used an inside line approaching the tabletop to make the pass for third. A lap later, he used the same move to take second away from Wahl. By this time; Cooper was long gone. Bennett settled for second with Wahl taking third. In the second moto, Wahl rocketed out of the start only to be passed on the back straight by Cooper. As the riders approached the fimsh line at the end of the first lap, Bennett had made up for a poor start and was applying . the pressure to Wahl for second. Bennett followed Wahl closely until the turn before the back straight, where Bennett got a better drive and powered past. Once into second, Bennett was able to close only slightly on Cooper. It looked as though the second moto finishing order would be the same as the first until Cooper went down within three corners of the finish. Bennett siezed his chance and motored by for the win and the overall. Cooper remounted for second while Wahl took third. "I just did a Damon Bradshaw and choked'" . explained Cooper later in the pits.
