Zum was crowned the Beaver Cycle Club High Point Champion for the weekend and for the season. Bradley Routheaux and I I Voight jumped into the lead in the 50cc A final while heat race winner Tyler Smulders gave chase in third. Smulders moved into second on lap two, and briefly led just before the white flag. As they dove into the hairpin turn for the last time, Smulders .shot into the lead and held on to win by three bike lengths. Routheaux finished second while Voight held on for third. Dan Vrana finished second in the 80cc Senior qualifying heat race behind Dan Kaiser, but he holeshot the main event and tried to break away. Jeremy DeRuyter was the only rider able to stay close in second. On lap three, DeRuyter took his first shot at Vrana but came up shon. One lap later, Vrana had a huge lead when DeRuyter spun out in tum one. Kevin Rohde inherited second place, but on the last lap current point leader Kye ¥bema moved past to take second. Peterson pounds Olympic Penninsula Hillclimb By Tom Hines PORT ANGELES, W JULY 18 A; Steve Peterson claimed three trophies, including first in the 601cc Plus Exhibition class, at the Olympic Penninsula Motorcycle Club's hillclimb event. , The hill was extremely challenging, and several riders were lucky just to make it to the top of the steep 400-£oot incline, which featured three vertical jumps. Stefan Fafnis had the best time of the day, with a IO.56-second run in the 0-600cc Exhibition category. The Vintage Stock class was topped by local rider Glen Romberg, who was riding a 1958 Harley-Davidson Sponster. Liz Hines, the only female competitor in her class, won the Mini 50cc class when she took her Yamaha PW50 47 feet up the hill.
