Siebert sails at Baja Acres MX By Sandie Newbigging MILLINGTON, MI, JUNE 21 Gary Siebert, Kawasaki-mounted, was a busy man Sunday by winning the 30 Plus class and finishing second in the 25 Plus class at Baja Acres MX. By far, the largest and fastest class in any given morning at Baja Acres is usually the 30 Plus class. Most o'f these riders have come up from the old Open A class. They are, to put it mildly, very fast. And a lot of them. still ride 5OOs. Siebert scored wins in both motos, while Craig Pikett kept close tabs on Siebert with two second place finishes. Scott Currie and Andrew Kimball battled back and forth with Currie leading third and Kimball fourth. George Fanelli turned in consistent fifths. Later in the afternoon, the 25 Plus class contained some familiar names, such as Siebert, who, again pulled the holeshot. But he couldn't'hold out against Rick Machniak. Machni'iik 'ended up scoring the overall win with Siebert earning a very respectable second. Jeff Himanek tallied two fourth-place finishes to take third overall. Mark Davison took fourth. By Dave Burgess CARLSBAD, CA, JULY 4 Dirt Squirt-backed Tony Amaradio overcame a large field of riders to claim the lion's share of the Pro class purse at Racing Enterprises' Fourth of July MX at Carlsbad Raceway. Price to the start of the first moto Amaradio was admittedly nervous. "This is one of the largest pro turnouts we've had in a while," he said. Amaradio kept his nerves in check as he blasted tbrough the first turn with the lead. Running a close second was Team Green's Tommy Clowers. Clowers stayed close and the two began to pull away. Willy Musgrave stayed a distant third and watched the action up front; The battle for the lead was a close one' until the leaders hit lapped traffic, and Amaradio slipped away. . • Moto two looked like more of the same as Amaradio led the way with Clowers and Musgrave in tow. From that point on the moto was a sleeper until Amaradio slid out in a slippery off-camber turn. Fortunately for Amaradio, he didn't stall the en~ine, and was able to remount and win by a slIm margin. In the 500cc Intermediate class Robert Failing overcame major mechanical troubles to take home- the overall victory' with a harrowinl\' second-moto win. In the fust moto, Failing had to'play second fiddle to J-J- Petchel and narrowly beat out Rod Landry. In moto two however, Failing got the holeshot, and was on his way to a clean victory when his transmission exploded and left him stuck in third gear. Failing somehow managed to hang on to win over Petchell and Landry. Results 80 BEG: I. Chris Scoff (Yam). 125 BEG: I. Becky Kukla (Kaw); 2. Mark Ushireyama (Yam); 3. Bernhard Leitner (Hon); 4. Rob Brown holeshot moto one and battled with Callahan for a lap until pulling out a 20-second lead on the fourth lap. Dan Swatling got by Callahan, and Brown took a rI;lajor fall, which put him out of the race. Callahan saw' the crash and put on a charge, nipping Swatling at the flag. The second moto was Callahan's from the start to the checkers. Todd Cleveland won both motos in the 250cc Expert class. Matt Delorenzo had a brief lead ill; moto one until a fall dropped him back. Shimp's 2-2 finishes earned him the first-place trophy over Posca's 4-1 score. Jim Buntin secured a hard-fought win in the l25cc Novice ranks. Jason Wood led the first four laps of the first moto before Buntin blew by for the lead and eventual win. Keith Katz holeshot moto two, but was immediately attacked from behind by Robbie Powell, Buntin and Wood. The front-runners .were so close that Buntin drop"ped from second to fifth in one corner when he made a slight bobble. Wood fell in a turn and Powell crashed in a whoop-section, which was all Buntin needed to climb back into the lead position, where he stayed until the finish. Results P/W MOD: I. Jerry Maninel (Yam). Shimp holeshot both 60cc motos and went uncontested for the wins. Christopher Gosselaar ran second both times, well ahead of Todd Gosselaar and Johner Faulker. In the Mini Beginner race, Matt Tittlemier led moto one, but started feeling pressure from Michael Rowland and Shimp after the first lap. Shimp slipped past Rowland and was all ove,r Tittlemier, but had to settle for second. Shimp made life easier for himself as he holeshot the second moto and started tOiull aWjly. Ito Posca gated fifth and worke up HOLLISTER, CA, JUNE 28 The Red Neck Roosters hosted an AMAI District 36 motocross at Hollister Hills SVRA and cool weather greeted the 150 riders, while Yamaha-mourned Ben Vitale smoked the l25cc Novice class and-Kawasaki rider Ryan O'Callaghan topped the Open Novice division. Vitale worked into the lead each 125cc Novice moto and stayed to the checkered to secure the overall. Kawasaki-mounted Michael Demaree combined a 3-4 tally to secure second overall. Jerry "Rage" Gage, also aboard a Kawasaki, spent some time in the lead of the first moto and then finished a strong second, but a second moto sixth dropped him to third overall. Matt MacPherson earned fourth overall with a 4-5 score, while James Burnett looked strong in moto one, as he worked up to the lead, but motor problems developed and he faded to seventh at the finish. Burnett hooked it to third in the final moto to take fifth overall.
