Reynolds rocks Bear Creek Spdwy By Kevin George 32 CANTON, OH, JUNE 27 Pat Reynolds won by a hair in the Handicap main at Bear Creek Speedway, while Scotty Brown scored an easy win in the Scratch final. Shoei/Oury/Blendzall/K- N Filters/Louis Leathers-backed Brown got started early with a win in the first heat, while Reynolds, Jeff Tretara, Mark Maurer and Mike Weaver kept things close. Kim Brown holeshot the second heat but Daily took over at the halfway mark. Brown held on for second with John Vasil and Shane Goodnight in third and fourth. As usual, the Handicap was the highlight of the day. Reynolds came from the 50-yard line to lead by lap two. Daily came off the 60 with Scotty Brown charging from a back straight start: With nine starters, traffic was heavy but by the fourth lap Daily moved to second a full straightaway behind Reynolds. On the last lap Brown moved around the outside of Daily. Reynolds was closing on traffic and Brown again used the cushion in turns three and four for a hard c.harge down the straight for what appeared to be a dead heat' with Reynolds at the checkers, but Reynolds was ruled the winner. Although Brown was disappointed not to win the Handicap event, he received some consolation when he dominated the Scratch main for a win over Reynolds. Results HDCP: I. Pat Reynolds; 2. Shane GoodnighL Wise wins Red Bud Motocross By Larry Witmer BUCHANNON, MI, JULY 4 Dave Wise won the Over 25 class at Red Bud Track 'n' Trail in a muddy event that saw many of the second motos cancelled due to the pouring rain and muddy conditions. Mike Crocker pulled the holeshot with Fred Nette and Dave Boes close behind. Crocker pulled out a small lead, while Boes passed Nette when he got stuck in the mud. Boes would close the gap on Crocker, but never . posed a threat. Wise made a clean pass around Nette for third and set after Boes. Crocker . finished first, while Wise took second away from Nette on· the last lap. . In the second moto, which was run in this class, Ken. Bland gated the fastest, with Wise and Crocker second and third. Wise used the mu.d conditions to his advantage, moving into first on the opening lap. Crocker threw his Honda away when he got sideways while running a close third. On the last lap, Bland closed within striking distance. He made his move at the finish line corner by block-passing Wise. But Wies hit his brakes, letting Bland go wide, and squared under him for the win. Jeffrey Childers was fastest to the first corner with Mike Wheatley second and Brian Graf third. Scott Hubbard was on the move, and on the fourth lap, moved into first place when Childers and Wheatley crashed. Hubbard kept it up to win, with Childers finishing second. The second moto was held in the rain, and Mensinger got the holeshot. Wheatly was second, but crashed out on the first lap. Mensinger held the lead to the finish, carding 4-1 motos for first overall. Eric McHatton earned second with 3-2 motos. PERRIS, CA, JULY II Jeff Versluys earned the win in the 25-29 Novice class after two heated motos of battling during the GFI Win A Truck Night Series, held at Perris Raceway. The first featured was arguably the best battle of the night between Robert Little and J irn Henn. The two riders exchanged the lead in excess of 10 times. Everytime Henn would make the pass, Little would double a set of whoops and pass Henn back. This continued to the finish, and Little squeaked out the victory by a knobby-length over Henn. Jeff Versluys rode in the shadow of the leaders, waiting to pounce, but the opportunity never came. Jim Henn led most of the second moto, while Versluys rode inches behind in second hoping for a mistake. The mistake came two turns from the checkered flag, when Henn became bottled up behind a lapped rider. Henn was forced wide in the turn, which allowed Versluys to squirt into the lead for the win. After the race, Henn performed a dance in front of the finish line area, obviously upset with what transpired. Kenny Morris turned in two strong rides to score the 125cc Beginner division two class win over series-point leader Josh Wray. Wray and John Nelson set the pace at the start of the first moto with Wray pulling ahead by the start of the second lap. Nelson had problems and soon dropped to the back of the pack, while Morris moved into second after Chris Packwood went down. It became a two-man race when Morris pulled in behind Wray near the halfway point m the moto. Wray appeared to be riding on the nervous side, and allowed' Morris to slip past. Chris Packwood put on a late-race charge, finishing third a few feet behind Wray and moto-winner Morris. Wray again led the way in moto two, but like in the first moto, could not withstand the pressure from Morris who eventually made the pass and won the race. Wray fell victim 'to a hard-charging Packwood and gave up second near the end of the race. Wray would finish third on the night. Results 50 FIRST TIMER: 1. Francisco Cobo (Yam); 2. Hallett hammers 'em at Dade City Motocross By Kyle Myers DADE CITY, FL, JULY 4 Round 16 o£ the Florida Motocross Club Points Series was held at Dade City Raceway, and Simon Hallett aced the 125cc Beginner class. At halftime, the Pasco County Fairgrounds held their 2nd Annual Fireworks display for the thousands of spectators on hand. When the 125cc Beginner class riders lined up for the first moto, the crowd lined the fence .and saw Wayne Schaffer blast into the lead with Greg Westbrook, Ashley Walton, Richard Cotter and Clint Frank following. Walton quickly passed Westbrook on the opening lap, as Dan Flesch motored into th.e top five. Schaffer, Walton, Westbrook and Cotter pulled away from the field, and on the third lap began to lap some of the riders in the 23-rider pack. Westbrook retook the second spot from Walton, as Cotter bobbled, letting Flesch and Frank by. Walton crashed, moving Greg Martin into fifth_ Martin then passed Frank and Flesch on the last lap. At the finish Schaffer took an easy win over Westbrook, Martin, Flesch and Simon Hallett, who shot by Frank at the finish line. - The second moto was all Hallett, as he led from start to finish..Walton and Cotter battled for second with Walton holding on. Westbrook and James Joiner rounded out the top five positions. Hallett captured the overall. In the Senior class, Wesley Shallow ripped the holeshot over J.D. Stockton, Chris Douthi, Alan Jackson and Drew Justice. Douthi and Stockton fought over the second spot as Justice slipped by Jackson. Douthi got by Stockton at the halfway point and started to pressure Shallow for the lead. Shallow and Douthi battled for the lead and as the white flag flew Douthi bumped Shallow several times but had to settle for second. Stockton, Justice, and Jackson filled out the top five. Shallow again led the 15-rider field into the front sweeper with Stockton, Douthi, Earl Parker, and Rick Hodged in tow. Douthi darted by Stockton on the opening lap. Shallow fell and let the pack fly by. Douthi pulled away, while Jim Painter motored into fourth ahead of Hodges. Shallow got up and moved into sixth on the next to last lap, and charged by Hodge and Painter on the last rap. Douthi took the moto and overall wins, with Stockton, Parker, Shallow and Painter behind. Results P/W: 1. Jason Bennett (Yam); 2. Kyle Williamson (Yam); 3. Scott Williams (Yam); 4.
