Your reporter outdid himself. But the Isle of Man is not in England. England is England. Great Britain is England,.Wal~s and Scotland. The United Kingdom is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Isle of Man is an independent country. Never call a Manxman an Englishman! If you do, he will explain the difference to you, in Engl!sh, that you'll understand. Here's to the Isle of Man the last Viking stronghold! James .E. Now that you've brought the dateline error to our attention, we recall a wooden ruler being brought down across the back of our hands to drive that point home many, many years ago. We also recall being told that the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are Crown dependencies, whatever that means. You can rest assured that next year's Isle' of Man TT coverage will bloody well include the dateline: DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN . .. Editor You forgot me! WBPA 4 Jim O'Neal President, O'Neal USA Chatsworth, CA Say what? While reading your coverage of the Mammoth Mountain MX; I noticed you wrote that Tom Webb was 'disqualified from the 500cc Junior class. Actually, Mr. Webb withdrew after the motos were finished. As most people know, Tom Webb is the editor of Dirt Rider magazine and part of any editor's job is to race test motorcycles. That's exactly what he was doing in the 500cc Junior class. He had no intention of being included in the day's results. That's the reason he went to the Mammoth officials and told them to withdraw his name. After all, you can't blame a guy for taking, the opportunity to test at one of the nation's premier motocross tracks. . P.O. Box 498. Long Beach. CA 90801-0498 In your coverage of the June 2021 Mammoth Mountain Old Timers MX, the Industry Vet class was left out of the results. I was very proud' of my preparation as well as the results for the weekend and would appreciate having my sponsors Century Cycles, Too Tech Racing, Ray Deeter Tire and Cycle Service Racing - and my efforts recognized. other three races to win the championship so they intended to "throw away" the points from San Felipe when Roeseler and Hamel did not compete. Kawasaki never intended to. "throwaway" their teams' eligibility for the championship, and they confirmed the rules in writing with SCORE before San Felipe. They were shocked to find out Roeseler's team was disqualified. As participants in the '92 SCORE seri~s, my fellow riders and I are extremely concerned that these midseason rules changes are unfair to all SCORE comp~titors who have spent countless hours and dollars to support SCORE's events. Re statements by Paul Fish of SCORE in the July 1 issue: SCORE has reinterpreted its rules in midseason without notifying competitors. Quoting Mr. Fish: 1) "A team must ride intact ... remain together in all four races." The dictionary defines intact as " ... having no relevant component removed ... " Neith.er Roeseler's nor Hamel's team was intact at San Felipe because neither Rider of Record competed, yet only Roeseler's team was declared ineligible for the championship. 2) "If a rider can't make a race, that's okay as long as he's not' substituted for you can delete bu't not substitute " In every year prior to 1992 it was legal to substitute team members as long as the Rider of Record remained constant. If SCORE elects to reinterpret this rule midway through the seaso~, dozens of teams will be disqualified. SCORE made no announcement of this change except to disqualify Roeseler's team. 3) "This kind of thing has happened before ... " When? Where? 4) "There are only four races this year, as compared to ... when ... there was enough to ... 'throw away' races. When this happened before, teams would ... throw ... races ou.t ... " Kawasaki was confident the Roeseler and Hamel teams .would earn enough points in the As we understand it, Webb, who will once again represent the U.S. as a member of this year's ISDE team, was originally entered in the 500cc Intermediate class' (as listed in the Mammoth MO,untain MX program). He sold his entry for that class after f.e became ill. Feeling better, he then purchased an entry for the 500(c Junior class from a rider who had been injured. Whether he withdrev or was disqualified is not the point. The complaints we heard centered on the fact that he took some of the ontrack glory away from other Junior class riders . .. Editor. Godspeed, R.B. Richard Brunson, a longtime member' of the Sunland Shamrocks M.C., died on July 14 after a short bout with cancer. R.B. raced desert events throughout the '50s, '60s and '70s, and continued to ride recreationally until being struck by illness earlier this year. He was a highly skilled rider, a great storyteller and an all-around nice guy. Those of us who knew and loved R.B. will miss him very much. And by the way, he was a terrific dad.
