SEE THE GREATEST """"1E1E~ SUPERCROSSRACERS ~c:::» IN·HIST rELEt/ISfON Key cruises to Lodi ST win 11 By Mindyz Mac LOD!, CA, JUNE 20 Mark Key powered off the line and into the lead to win the Pro-Am main at Lodi Cycle Bowl's Saturday night short track. Key, I;iding his Wood-Rotax, was able to extend his lead on the rest of the field with each lap to take an easy win. Danny McDonnell and Mike Gresham were wheel-to-wheel, battling for second throughout the race. McDonnell was able to hold off Gresham to the checkers even though on the white-flag lap, Gresham tried a daring outside pass on McDonnell, but dropped off the groove allowing Ron Brown to move into third. Lonnie Pauley pulled off his first win in the Open A class. Pauley, aboard his Honda, was able" to hold off the charges of Gresham and Key. It looked as if the battling Gresham and Key might catch the leader before the checkered flag, but it didn't happen, as Pauley . was riding fast and smooth enough to take home the first-place money. Behind the top three was an exciting race for fourth place between Ricky Smith and Steve Mayfield. They passed each. other several times before Smith was able to settle into fourth place for good. In 250cc C action it was James Pitchford, holeshoting into turn One. He was followed closely by Wayne Davis, Ronald Ashcraft and Davis Winters. The riders were bunched ,exiting tum two, with Pitchford still maintaining the lead. By the halfway point, Pitchford and Davis had opened a gap over the rest of the field. It was a drag race out of turn four heading to the finish line with Pitchford taking the win. . RiCk JOh Buchholz perfect at Neoga TT By Mike Collier NEOGA, II., JUNE 14 Michael Buchholz added two more wins at Neoga to bring his season total to six. Buchholz rode the Central Illinois Motorcycle Club scramble track as if he owned it. Excellent riding and a little luck made Buchholz a winner in the Open final as he had to ride the final three laps on a flat front tire. Dennis Williams made the long trip from Henderson, Kentucky, topick up wins in the 200cc and Senior classes. Jess Robinson led the 125cc final for the first 'four laps, but then Bob Lucas made a pass on the back straight. Robinson made a pass the next ·lap and went on to the easy win. Lucas slowed, apparently having failed to tum on his fuel, but held on for second place. Dennis Williams used his immaculate old Bultaco and a super-smooth riding style to easily win the 200cc final. Tom Sutton and Mark Augenstein had a race-long battle and swapped positions several times but it was Sutton with the second position at the checkered flag. Brad Turner, normally a motocross racer, put his DTX Suzuki in the number-one spot as he showed the 250cc class the fast way around the track. nSon ~~. ~ # 9107 9108 9109 9110 :Northern California Reno, NV Area Time &Show 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm - Date Wednesday, July 22 '83 Atlanta Supercross 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm Sunday, July 26 '84 Atlanta supercross 10:30 pm - 11 :30 pm '85 Anaheim Supercross San Diego supercroSS 12:00 Midnight Wednesday, July ~9 WednesdaY, August 12 Hosted by Larry Huffman '85 Rose Bowl .
