Dickson dominated Sleepy Hollow Motocross By Brenda Uhrich 46 FREDERICKSBURG, PA, JUNE 7 Caylon Dickson won all four of his motos at Sleepy Hollow Motocross Park. Dickson indicated he got good starts which helped him lead each race from the start to the checkered flag. The wins gave Dickson first overall in the 125 and 250cc Expert classes. Many of the riders felt that track conditions were the best of the season. The track was' East with plenty of room for passing. Dave Wolfskill kept the pressure on Matt Forman throughout the first Over 25 moto but Forman never gave up the room Wolfskill needed to pass. Meanwhile Bob Sorenson played the same game with Brian Eichelberger [or third place in the moto_ In the second moto Sorenson led the field out o[ the starting gate with Wolfskill in second and Forman in third_ A wet section on the track which provided problems throughout the day caused Wolfskill to go down on the first lap. Forman didn't seem to mind the muddy section, as he passed Sorenson at the same spot to take the lead in the second lap and came away with the motowin. Dan Wilson, who won the l~cc Amateur class worked his way from a mid-field start to take first place in the second moto. Wilson, who won the first moto, was penalized for starting illegally, and had to start backwards in the s«ond moto. He was ninth after the first lap, but by the start of lap three was in second place and riding-hard to catch Erik Wingert. He passed Wingert in the final lap to take the moto win and first overall. COSTA MESA, CA, JUNE 26 Robert Pfetzing won the eight-man, eight-lap Handicap main event before a crowd of 4080 at the Orange County Fairground's legendary speedway oval, while Steve Lucero was victorious in the Scratch main. Pfetzing was one of five riders that qualified for the Handicap main from the 4O-yard line_ Since only four riders can occupy any yardage line, a drawing was held to determine who would move back to the 50-yard line with Mike Faria and Steve Lucero. Shawn McConnell was moved back while Brad Oxley, Charlie Venegas and Chris Manchester remained on the 40 with Pfetzing. This left Gary Ackroyd alone, ahead of the pack on the 30. On the stan, Ackroyd was caught off guard and was quickly swallowed up by Oxley, who used a rolling start to move past Ackroyd before they even reached the starting tapes I Ackroyd fell into line behind Oxley, holding off P'fetzing, Manchester, McConnell, Faria and Lucero. The top six positions stayed the same thTough lap five when Ackroyd suddenly went wide allowing the next five riders to move past him. Oxley looked to have the win all but wrapped up when disaster struck as his engine gave way on the sixth lap. A surprised but grateful Pfetzing took quick control o[ the front spot and held onto it [or the win, while Manchester placed second. Steve Lucero used his starting ability and good.fonune to finish ahead of Oxley, Faria and Pfetzing in the Scratch main_ Lucero drew the inside starting position, while to his right were F'lfia, Pfetzing and Oxley. Lucero was the first off the line, with Faria trying to swoop around the outside_ Faria- pulled slightly ahead o[ Lucero as the two ran down the back straight, but with Lucero occupying the inside, Faria had no way to get around. Meanwhile, Oxley was breathing down Lucero's neck, and took over second place at the end of lap two. Pfetzing was following Faria on the outside, but [ell while trying to work the deep din a little too hard. Lucero held on for the decisive win, while second place went to Oxley. Results SCRATCH: I. Erickson jumped of£. the grid ahead of the pack and held the lead throughout lap one. Jeff Scheuller elbowed Vern Bundy aside in the dash for the first corner but Bundy was trying to get around. Jerry Anderson and Jim Forington were harassing Scheuller, while Erickson stretched out a long lead. Anderson and Forington went after Schueller and both passed him under braking on the following lap. Forington left Anderson in fourth for the rest of ~he race. On the last four laps Bundy, Erickson and Forington constantly swapped .positions, with Forington eventually claiming the win over Bundy. Kurt Dimick was first of[ the start in the Middleweight Superbike race, while Terry Harnish and Aaron Merriman followed. Merriman edged Harnish in the run to the downhill seventh turn, 'and Damon Carr also got by after repeated attacks on Harnish. Dimick won ahead of Merriman and Carr. The Heavyweight Superbike class start was controlled by Randy Kirschbaum. Frank Cowgill, Bryan Balkeman, Mike Surratt and Terry Hamish were bumping for second place until Cow~ill and Balkeman both ran off the track.
