Hrehor could be considered a threat to Smith's overall victory. Dan Richardson collected the second 250cc moto victory ahead of Todd Mathwig, Darren Sanford, Scott Drafs and Michael Haas..Despite Richardson's moto victory, he finished ninth in the class behind Sanford. The 350cc Four-Stroke moto featured a motivated Rhodes pulling the holeshot and winning the molO over Hrehor. Hrehor stuck with Rhodes early in the moto, but as the dust increased he eased back. "I broke the clutch cover., so I had no clutch," Hrehor said. "It was very difficult to ride. I had a dead-last start, but I almost passed Rhodes going through the mudhole on the first lap. It was very dusty and dangerous, so I made the decision to slow down and not crash in the dust." Nevertheless, Rhodes was ecstatic. "I finally beat Jan (Hrehor) in a moto!" While Rhodes turned in one of the fastest moto times of the event, it was still over 25 seconds behind that of Smith's. Consequently, Hrehor was unable to regain the lead from Smith and finished second overall. Bertram finished the moto in third ahead of Glenn Martinson and Bob Holmes. Dan Harte was running strong but dropped out, explaining, "I lost compression and I think that my bike sucked a valve." Hamel raged in the first Open class moto, winning comfortably over Phil Douglas, Jason Dahners, Jim Gray and Bruce Field as the dust became more intense. In the second Open class moto, Washington's Scott Lathrop leapt in front of Tommy Ady and Bob Johnson. "This was definitely the best part of the weekend!" said Lathrop. The Seniors and remaining Open Four-Strokes were combined in the last moto of the event. Suzuki-mounted Bruce Rust nailed the holeshot but was heavily challenged by Wilcox. Several laps into the moto, Rust got sideways coming out of a tricky comer and Wilcox thundered past. Ken Maahs was making a tremendous charge but hit the deep, square-edged ditch and flipped. As they took the checkered flag, Wilcox led Rust across the line, while John Moody, Maahs and Dale Demaris followed. After the race, when asked about his failure at making this event his fourth Trask victory in a row, Hough replied, "It's L.R. 's (Larry Roeseler's) fault! We had a deal since he had won Virginia City three times, that if he won it this year that I would win Trask. Well, he lost Virginia City to Rodney Smith this year, and now I've lost Trask to Smith, also. So our streak has been broken!" CN Results 0/A: I. Rodney Smith (Suz); 2.
