America's weekly motorcycle newspaper I'm writing this letter in defense of Jeff Stanton after reading the letter by Mark Leopold (June 24 issue). Give the guy a break. You try riding a 20-lap supercross main event with the best riders in the world and then sign autographs for a thousand or so people. I think calling Stanton a jerk was uncalled for. I got Stanton's autograph with no problem at a GFI race. I was wearing a Kawasaki jacket at the time, and must say that Stanton is not my favorite rider, Mike LaRocco and Jimmy Button are. As far as Honda goes, their team riders are nice guys. I even got a JeanMichel Bayle jersey and after sending Honda a letter of appreciation, I received Honda posters featuring all the team riders, including Jeff Stanton. Putting down Bayle, Swink It's about time someone spoke up and addressed the lack of competitive spirit, professional attitude, and consideration for supercross fans. I'm talking about Jean-Michel Bayle and Brian Swink. First, to Bayle: How can you ruin the potentially most exciting supercross final ever? Saving yourself for road racing? Ask Rainey or Schwantz how long you'll last. Injured? Ask Jeff Ward why he keeps racing in front of his fans, even after recent shoulder surgery. Second, to Swink: Thanks for ruining the best East-West l25cc Shootout in a long time. Jeremy McGrath would never sell out like you did. You see, guys, fans don't care why you weren't there and will never remember anyway. The difference between you and the other riders· I mentioned is that they are competitors in the true sense of the word - take away the cash and trophies, they'd race just to race. Mark Mehren Huntington Beach, CA Mechanic, dub search I am hoping you can help me. I own a 1985 Yam.aha RZ500. I purchased it last July and recently have had some mechanical problems with it. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find someone in the Indiana-Ohio area who has experience working with the 500. The bike has only 1700 miles on it. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I would also like any information on the RZ500 club. Brent Hobson Connersville, IN We had a listing for a Yamaha RZI RD Owners Group, but they've obviously moved. A call to their listed phone' number connected us with a party who said he knew nothing about the club. Your request for help has been made public, and if anyone responds, we'll publish the information ... Editor. Letters to the editor should be sent to: Voices, Cycle News, P.O. IN THE WIND By Papa Wealey Continued from page 3 this. year, and Hrehor will represent their home countries. Hrehor will most likely compete on the Czechoslovakian World Trophy Team. Don't miss next week's Cycle News! As part of our Unadilla 250cc MX Grand Prix preview, we'll feature a history of the 250cc MX GP Series by Alex Hodgkinson, who wrote the 500cc MX GP history we featured earlier this year. In addition, the issue will present a report on a dual sport ride that many say has no equal, a ride in Mexico's awesome ~opper Canyon. CORRECTION: In our coverage of the June 13 Hangtown Amateur MX, we incorrectly reported that Vet A class winner Larry Wosick (Yam) also went on to earn the Vet Support class win at the June 14 AMA National.
