Winsett, Klopp clobber Experts at Trail-Way Short Track By Len Breech Photos by Ben Breech HANOVER, PA, JUNE 6 Todd Winsett and Mike Klopp each took a win and a close second on a very slick track as Trail-Way Speedway managed to get another short track event in after rain hit hard the day before. Winsett topped the 250cc A class on his Al Wenger Punk & Mom/Greiner IndustrieslWRTIEgore & Sons-sponsored Honda, and almost pulled off the 600cc A win, finishing a close second to Jim Haas. Klopp took the 750cc final on the same Triumph that Tom Majeski won a final with, and battled Rob Majeski for the first half of the Pro final before Majeski took command for the win. Todd Winsett jumped out to the 250cc A lead ahead of Ricky Winsett, Lew Woods and Randy Shank. Ricky bobbled slightly on the third lap, letting Woods into second. After getting one of his typical poor starts, Paul Lynch moved up to challenge Ricky for third, taking the position with two laps to go. Senior class rider Mark Burkholder took first at the start of the 600cc A final, with Jim HaaS, Merv Sensenig, Todd Winsett and Eddie Hidden close behind. Haas took the lead before the completion of the first lap, while Winsett took second on the third lap and started to pressure Haas. Sensenig threw a chain just past the halfway point. On the final lap, Winsett slipped under Haas as they came off the second tum, but Haas put his D B Porting Honda back in the lead before the third turn and held on for the win. Klopp took the point from Clarence Bull, Joe Gately and Earl Yearick in the 750cc A class. While Klopp and Bull battled closely up front, touching at least once, Paul Crumling took fourth from Yearick and challenged Gately for third in the late stages. After arriving for his heat half a lap down, Rob Majeski made sure he got to the line in time for the start of the 600cc Pro final, gating third behind Klopp and Eddie Hidden. After battling Hidden for three laps, Majeski finally got by and started to pressure Klopp for the lead, taking it at the end of the fourth lap. Dallas Baer got by Hidden for third on the seventh lap, but Hidden stayed close and finished just inches behind. The 55cc class had some very close racing normally reserved for the more experienced classes. Scott Morrison, Danny Guiseppe and Corey Hormes pulled away from the field as they battled for the lead. After two laps, Morrison and Hormes had put a little distance on Guiseppe. They stayed close to the flag, with Morrison again taking the win. In the late laps at slippery Trail-Way Short Track, 600cc A class winner Jim Haas (09A) led Todd Winsett (9), who finished a very close second. 250 B: I. Eddie Wharton (Vam); 2. Roy Miller (Cag); 5.
