LOOKING BACK
Winner Steve Morehead was pictured on the cover 40 years ago
from the San Jose Mile... Johnny O'Mara (125cc) and Kenny Keylon
(250cc) won the 125/250cc National Motocross at Sunshine Speedway
in St. Petersburg, Florida. We also had an interview with Keylon, who
was a young up-and-comer motocrosser from Florida... Mike Guerra
became the first American in 10 years to win a European 250cc
Motocross Grand Prix after going 4-1 on his Husqvarna in Sabadell,
Spain. The last American to do it was Jim Pomeroy.

We featured the Colorado Springs Mile and the Elsinore Grand Prix on the cover
of Cycle News 50 years ago. Jim Rice won the Mile over Mark Brelsford
and Kenny Roberts, but we didn't know who won the GP yet, it would take
an estimated three weeks before results would be finalized. However, we said
Jeff Wright, Steve Hurd or Gene Cannady were the most likely candidates.
Approximately 1100 racers competed... We had coverage of the Pathfinders
M.C.'s Chicken Enduro, a popular run held in Oakhurst, California.
