LOOKING BACK
We asked the question, can "King" Kenny Roberts come back (and
win?) in our preview of the 1982 500cc Grand Prix Championship.
Marco Lucchinelli was going in as the defending champion... We
had coverage of round two of the AMA Superbike Championship from
Talladega. Eddie Lawson took the victory... Scot Harden was the
overall winner at the AMA National One-Day ISDE Qualifier in Post,
Texas... Bruce Penhall beat Bobby Schwartz in a run-off at the
Speedway Spring Classic round in Costa Mesa, California.
Don Emde was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago for
winning the Daytona 200. Dave Smith out-dueled Kenny Roberts in the
250cc combined 100-mile race... Several stars showed up for the Pacific-
AMA Motocross at Escape Country in California, but it was no surprise
that CZ-mounted Brad Lackey claimed the 250cc Pro win... Motocross
was held inside the Daytona Speedway for the first time in front of the main
grandstands. Jimmy Weinert won the 250cc class and Mark Blackwell
the 500cc class... We tested the 500cc Yankee twin off-road motorcycle.
