The Pass
•In what many bill as the best race of the 800cc era in
MotoGP, Valentino Rossi passes Casey Stoner
on the dirt in the Corkscrew to claim victory and deals
a psychological blow to his rival. Stoner later crashes
in turn 11, but still finishes second.
•Chris Vermeuelen continues to thrive at Laguna
Seca, the Aussie finishing third behind the battling rivals.
•Nicky Hayden is the top American in fifth on his
Repsol Honda.
•Ben Spies finishes eighth in his second career GP
and then goes to hospital for an appendectomy.

of a squeeze on the podium. The Aussie
complained that Rossi had ridden rough
and that he'd lost respect for him.
