ROUNDS 6-7/JULY 13-14, 2013 MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE/LEXINGTON, OHIO AMA DAYTONA SPORTBIKE P90 AMA GOPRO DAYTONA SPORTBIKE SERIES On Sunday, Beaubier had his hands full with JD Beach (95) but still managed to win his sixth race of the season. ever for JD Beach. The RoadRace Factory rider led the race (shortened from 21 to 15 laps due to a massive oil spill from a fanlap ride at lunch) for five laps. And then once Beaubier got by, he hung tough and actually turned the fastest lap of the race with two to go in an effort to catch the leader. He came up just .655 of a second short at the end, but it was one of the most serious challenges Beaubier has had all season in the class. "At the beginning, I was a little timid going into the left-hander," said Beaubier. "I could hear JD on me the whole race, especially in the last turn. He was there the whole time, and it was tough." He added that he had tried to pull away, but couldn't shake Beach. For Beach it marked what he hoped would be a breakthrough. He credited much of his success on Sunday by taking full advantage of the 10-minute free practice given to the riders to help clean off the oil dry from the fan ride incident. He said he found a good line through the turns involved. "I think I put the most laps in during the practice," Beach said. "A lot of people decided to pull in and I guess save their tires and stuff, but I just kept doing laps and found my line through all the slick stuff and a good start and put my head down through there. I know in the first few laps of these races there are a lot of people that get up to the front that don't finish there. So I kind of wanted to break away from there. "I was leading and felt good and then Cameron came past me and I knew Jake [Gagne] was going to be right there. I made a bit of a mistake and Cameron got a gap on me and I just put my head down and really pushed hard and did a pretty decent lap time and brought it home in second." Gagne was third in Sunday's race, continuing his string of solid podium finishes. "I didn't have the pace today," Gagne said. "I just struggled a lot. JD and Cameron rode awesome. I stayed with them for a little while, but then just had too many moments and just decided to bring it home in third." Gerloff held off James Rispoli in a nice battle over fourth that came down to the last lap. CN
