Bob Hannah was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago.
The "Hurricane" won the opening two rounds of the CMC Preston
Petty Golden State Motocross Series at Saddleback and Madera.
Brad Lackey, Mike Bell and Johnny O'Mara were some of the other
big winners... We had coverage of the 12
th
annual El Trial de Espana.
Dwaine Walters took the win, while Derreck Bernard won the
Schreiber Cup... We had the first look of Honda's new NS500 V-3 and
SWS F-1 race bike.
Our first issue of the year 50 years ago featured an interview with J.N.
Roberts and coverage of Whitey Martino's first victory of the new year.
The win came at the Vikings M.C. Hare Scrambles in Lucerne Valley,
California... We reported the passing of Bob Bates, founder of Bates
Industries. Bates was killed in a traffic accident in Victorville, California...
We showed you some of the latest motorcycles on display at the
Motorcycle Trade Show in Long Beach, California.... Scott Harris won
the Pikes Peak Snow Run on his Triumph.
