Oberchain "oberallus" at BerthoudMX By Ernie Ferguson LOVELAND, CO, DEC. 12 The Sports Riders Association of Colorado and the Valley Dirt Riders hosted some excellent motocrossing today at the Berthoud track. The temperature hovered around 50 degree for most of the afternoon on a not-so-typical winter day. Some of Colorado's best riders were there, and the hearty fans present were treated to some great racing. At this late date in the racing season, the quality of competition doesn't suffer one bit. The morning began with the smaller riders getting onto the tacky, wet track around nine o'clock. The Minis really put on a show, from the Expert class to the Novices. In the Mini Novice class, Scott Oberchain displayed great form and concentration while finishing first in both motos. Scott was chased by Tom Vokas. Tom rode to a 2-3 finish for' secon'd place. Right behind Scott and Tom was Blain Davis, who had a 4-2 afternoon. In the Pee Wee B class, Andy Atkins was out in front for most of the day. Andy, having moved lo Kawasaki, finished the day I-I to take first for another afternoon. If Andy continues to improve, there is no telling what he is capable of in the future. A rider who will definitely see a large number of first place finishes in the 125cc Novice class is Rich Winter. Rich had a perfect day finishing 1-1 to take his class, .Behind Rich was another good rider, who knows what lo do with a I25cc motorcycle. Kevin Mayer placed second in both of his motos to finish second. Tim Miller raced to a 4-3 afternoon to take third overall. The Expert 125, 250 and Open classes all ran together in two mixed class motos. When you get riders from three Expert classes on a track together, the dirt and mud reaIJy flies, and the racing is just short of spectacular, Brent Reed, an Open Expert rider, came out on top by running to a 3-2 finish. Behind Brent, haTd ridin~ Scott Kil~ore, a 125cc Expert, took second with a 2-3 afternoon. And, in a super display of rac- ing, 250cc Expert rider Boo Stichter finished in the third spot. Boo took the first mow with his leaping style and hard racing. However, in the second moto he had some mechanical problems. When the gate went down, Boo was still in the pits attempting to correct the problem. At the end of the second mow, Boo had passed all, but five of the racers for a fifth place finish, to take third overall. Some superb racing from a super motocrosser. The 125cc B class put on a good . show as Art Dehoff ran fast all day. Art finished I-I to take the day with super racing form. Behind Art was the fast and free riding Shane Henderson. Shane rode to a 2-2 day ahead of Steve Stephens, who had a 3-4 afternoon. Results OPEN NOV: 1. Mike Strasheim; 2. Philip Cordova; 3. Keith Hendrichs. VET NOV: 1. Jerry Young; 2. Tom Lubas; 3.
