Morgan masters beginners at DeAnza By Kit Palmer SUNNYMEAD, CA, NOV. 28 Art Morgan (Yam) won a hardfought battle in the 125cc Beginner class today, after dicing with second place finisher Tony Magallanes (Suz). Both ~iders finished the day. with a moto win, but it was Morgan who managed to win the second moto, which gave the Yamaha pilot the overall. . The action began with the start of -moto one when Magallanes roosted to the front of the pack ahead of Tom Popovich Jr. (Hon), Winford Eliox (Yam), Andy Leisner (Suz) and Morgan. During the first lap, Morgan held the throttle open, passing both Leisner and Eliox and taking third. Standing in the way of the leader was Popovich. However, Magallanes' lead was good enough to hold him through the finish. Morgan took second while Popovich and Leisner followed. . After the pack had rounded the first turn at the start of the second moto, it was Morgan who had found himself in front of the pack. Hot on the leader's track were Popovich, Eliox and Magallanes. By the end of lap one Magallanes had already worked his way into the second position and stuck himself to Morgan's rear fender. The two were engaged in a dogfight for the lead throughout the moto. But, in the end, it was Morgan who came out on top, taking the moto win and the day's overall. Second went to Magallanes while Eliox took third for fourth overall and Popovich settled with a fourth place moto finish for third in the final results. In the Mini Novice class it was another tight battle, and in the end it was West Coast' Furniture's David Church (Suz) who emerged victorious after dueling with Suzuki of Riverside's Mike Michetti (Suz).
