(Below) PRRO F-1 start at PIR. track in hopes of landing some of the $10,000 in prize money. Yamaha support rider Troy Blake, in a surprise showing, ended up taking second to Drey· Dircks in the 125cc Experts and third to Chappy BloSe and Bryan Hayes in the 250s. The 125cc Novices used the time to get a look at the same track that some of the best National riders are signed up to race in two weeks. Randy Killman took the early lead in the Stock class and kept it ahead of Kevin Wood. . Within two laps Danny Cantu jetted up fast from a bad start to pressure Wood for secqnd. On the next lap Killman slipped into third but managed to stay ahead of the battle going on for fourth between Micheal Bennett and Sean Miceli.. By the next lap Miceli had taken over fourth very decisively and started on Killman. Ten seconds in front of them was the leader, who was getting some serious tire bumping from Cantu. But Wood had the better exit line out of the berms and held on for the first moto win. Killman saw the lead again in moto two, only to have it taken away on the second lap by Mike Pomeroy. Pomeroy cruised ahead of the rest but Blue Robinette was pumped. After a few laps of wasted time behind Killman he took over second and hunted down the first place rider. Robinette looked like he was willing to use more energy than Pomeroy and within a couple of laps Robinette had chewed up the time between himself and first place, putting them ~lose enough to hear each other's gear changes. After they traded positions several times, Robinette established himself in the lead with two laps to go. Pomeroy sat back in second while Cantu finished up a consistent third, good enough for him to take the overall. NOV. 14 Anyone who believes they are a hot street rider should come out to Phoenix International Raceway and w~tch Willie Adams make a box stock 550 Kawasaki that he rides to work every day dust off Open class and GP bikes. Phoenix Road Racing Organization runs the GP (anything goes) class at the same time as the Box Stockers, only the stockers take off half a lap behind. Adams usuaUy passes one or two of the hot rods before the end of the 10 lap race. Class! . Nothing but trophies, an occasional set of free brake pads or some other goodie, and a lot of pride motivate the PRRO amateur. T~e pride and competitive spirit really stand out when you see a.guy like Norm Benedum or Jerry Cline crashing, wrenching enough to get back into the race, then during the trophy awards wearing slings and ban~ages. Also Class. Today the final points race of the PRRO season brought out perfect weather and a Yamaha TZ750 from El Paso, TX rjdden by Ra~dy Waldrop. Skillfully piloted and built' for racing, the TZ made it no contest for first, pulling ahead by nearly half a lap on the two GP events which it both entered and dominated. Most of the regulars in the bi~ bike wars run GP scooters which are modified little enough to also get them into the Super Street class. Mike Williams (1000 Suz), who really wants to say thanks to his sponsor Sun Suzuki, is one. Another is Mick Frew, who did an outstanding jo~ of piloting a 750 Kaw that he and Pat Palmer blueprinted into one of the most consistent bikes at PIR. And consistency was also Street Machine's Eugene Coward, racking up points on an early model 550 Honda. Although the first GP event was dominated by Waldrop's TZ750, J~rrY
