Cindy Palormo CADIZ, KY, NOV. 7 Husqvarna's Terry Cunningham, who had already clinched the National Championship, put the finishing touches on a very successful season by capturing the overall ~in in the Twin States National. He dropped 30 points and beat 'd I out O pen c1ass A A ~I er ~arry Kuenzer by a full SIX pOInts. 8 This was Cunningham's seventh overall win in the 12-event AMA National Championship Enduro Series. "It feels good to end the season on a winning note," T.C. said at the conclusion of the run. "But it still hasn't really sunk in that I won the National Championship." Cunningham came on strong at the end of the 1981 season and continued his winning ways this year with only a few minor interruptions. "1 proved to a lot of people that I really am a consistent rider. When I first started riding the National circuit, I went from extreme highs to the , .. pits with my scores. However, I've learned a lot in two and a half years and now the harder the run, the beuer I like it and the beuer I do. "Twin States was perfect for me with that stretch between the gas stops where we ran for over 30 miles through the woods," Terry said. "I was able to extend my lead over DarryIthrough that area. I had picked up a five point advantage by the end of that section. We stayed basically even fwm there to the end." It was an uneven day for the other AA riders. Husky rider ,Mark Hyde rode hard all day but had trouble between the fourth and fifth checks where he lost 20 points. In all he dropped 43 and ended up in seventh place overall. .
