"I' rode like hell," was the way Yamaha's
Broc Glover described how he disappeared
from the field at the start of the Miller High
Life Supercross Finals, en route to a runaway

a solid second, with. Honda's

jo.hnny O'Mara, David Bailey and
jim Gibson filling slots three through
five.
"I rode really hard at the beginning of the race," said Glover after it
was over, "and then I just got to ride
around in the next half. That was
kind of nice. I was getting nervous
though. I haven't won a Supercros~
since last year." The bikes that Glover
and johnson rode were 1983 YZ250K
production models with Glover's
scheduled to be radled off after the
event.
A crowd of 41,688 were on hand to
view the event, with promoter Mike
Goodwin claiming beforehand that
he had to spend an extra $28,000 to
combat rumors thatthefactory teams
would not participate. ~hey were
there, with Kent Howerton making
his Kawasaki debut. The"Rhi!l~stone
(or ]adestone) Cowboy" quahhed for
the final and finished 10th.
While johnson had few problem~
in finishing second, O'Mara was battling pain from an earlier foot inj ury.
"When I was in japan three weeks
ago, I broke a bO,ne .on the ~op of my
foot ~nd I haven t ndden smc~ then.
The JU~ps here are so tall t~at It. hurt
every tIme I landed. I don t thmk I
rebroke it, but it probably isn't healed
all the w~y yet."
