Pieper takes two at .D enver Speedway By Ernie Ferguson DENVER, CO, OCT. 22 The National Western Complex Arena in Denver, Colorado, was the scene of some super speedway racing tonight. The track was fast and the crowd good as some of Colorado's best attacked the Denver track. First and Second Division racers thrilled the fans in a night of racing that included good racing and head-ta-head battles all evening long. In the first event, a handicap heat for First Divison riders, Mark Borgman, a 40-yard Handicap rider, raced to the checkered flag first. He finished the six laps ahead of Brian Hoel who took second ahead of Mike Jaudon, who was third. In the Second Handicap heat, Allen Rohr took the flag first, with Mike Corbett second and Dave Pieper third. The fast pace continued with the third event, another Handicap First Division six lapper. Fred Martin took the flag with gutsy racing. On his tail were Ken Pieper and Bill Walsh. Event four was a Handicap race also. Dan Weigum, handicapped at the 20, passed everyone to take first. He was followed by Larry Metherd and Rick Steele. The fifth event was the first Second Divison race of the night. Dennis Hartley took the shortest line to the flag and won the race ahead of Jeff Kenley and Scott Crooks. The next event, number six of the night, was a Second Divison Handicap also. Some super racing was seen when Vince Reichardt took the inside line to the flag. Second place was awarded to Lance Darsow and third to Squeak Madonna. . The ninth event was the first Scratch race of the night, and with all four riders on the starting line at once, the racing gQt serious. In this first Scratch race, Ken Peiper, a First Division rider, took the race going away. He was followed by Mike Jaudon in second and Dan Weigum in third. Event 10 was another First Division Scratch affair, with Johnnie Zwey· gardt finishing first, Bill Walsh second, and Larry Metherd third. The night's racing star turned out to be Ken Peiper, who was awarded two trophies and two kisses from the trophy girl. Ken is a superb First Division rider. He won the First Division Handicap Semi and the 'First Division Scratch Semi. He then won the Handicap Main and the Scratch Main, for the overall rider of the evening. The Second Division Handicap Main was won by Vince Reichardt.. Dennis Hartley was second with Lance Darsow third. Oklahomans rule at KS FT By Ed Beckley DODGE CITY, KS, OCT. 17 A good crowd of nearly 1000 people· showed up today at the "Outlaw" motorcycle races promoted by Ed Beckley. The motorcycles had their share of excitement. Professional riders that make their living racing motorcycles showed up for this event with one idea, to make some money. With this attitude the spectators got their money's worth as riders like Scott Adams, Kirk England, Max Wilson and Phillip Culver were all running very hard trying to get some of the prize money offered by Beckley. The 250cc class was dominated by Adams. Adams won his heat race after getting by Chad Woods. The Open class heat race was another Oklahoman show as Max Wilson and Adams finished one-two. The main event for the 250cc class moved to the line with Adams on the pole position. Adams jumped out ahead and set sail, never to be challenged. Kirk England and Wilson were having a super battle.for second with their positions being swapped, as much as three times'a lap. At the checkered flag it was Adams, Wilson, England, Dallas Babcock and Gary Garrison.
