Schedule subject to change. 2 The AMA's lawsuit against Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki continues through the process of "discovery," with a hearing scheduled before Magi~trateJames McMahon on Nov. 3. The hearing will decide a request by the manufacturers for a gag order on evidence subpoenaed by the AMA. Rumors flying about last week concerned a settlement offer alleged to have been from the manulacturers, calling for a one-year moratorium on the Grand National MX concept in exchange for a committee to be made up of manufacturer, AMA, and promoter reps. The committee would !lilJdy the GNC idea for a year before making a decision the manufacturers would abide by. We called AMA Executive Director Ed Youngblood for confirmation of these reports, and of the allegation that the AMA turned it down cold. "I just got back into the office from the FIM meetings," said Youngblood, adding, "There was a meeting between various attorneys. I'm not aware that it included all the things you've mentioned." Youngblood suggested that we contact the AMA attorneys, but when we did that earlier, they had no comment. The other big rumor making the rounds was that several MX and Supercroa promoters would be meeting in San Diego on Nov. 4 and then would make an appearance at the AMA Board of Tru.- Professional racers who complain about the way the AMA conducts races, should try doing it for the ABC camera crews. Superbikers referee Butch Lee, in the simple act of trying to conduct a riders' meeting, had his location changed, his voice level checked, and was held up for at least 15 minutes before being able to proceed. ABC commentators Jim McKay and Sam Posey, doing an on-thetrack introduction before the main event, found themselves booed by the crowd for holding up the races. "On the road again" is a song that might be sung by new AMA Grand National Champ Ricky Graham. Graham left Monday Nov. 1 on a Winston-sponsored promotional tour that will hit nine major cities in two weeks. The first issue of Dirt Rider Magazine is expected to hit the stands on Nov. 16, according to editor Charlie Morey. Then it's on to Daytona, where tOUT participants will have tickets to the races and pit passes to boot. The tour is limited to the first 25 riders and 10 passengers, with deposit required by Dec. 31. "Kent Howerton signed a two-year contract today with Kawasaki," said Howerton's manager in the deal, lens ace Dave Hawkins, in an Oct. 28 phone conversation. Howerton has been released from his Suzuki contract and will be riding green machines in the Nov. 6 final round of the AMA/Wrangler Supercross Series, the Miller High Life Supercross Finals in San Diego.
