Klum now holds a commanding lead in the season points( race going into the Champ io ns h ip round, with Jeff Ca m p bell wh o d id not contest tonight, seco nd in points. Su n n y Valley Racewa y is p ro babl y the finest n o n- AMA faci lities tha t Oregon has to offer and rumors have bee n flying around this town (29 people, 16 ch icken s and a ho rde of co ws) that it wi Il meet its dem ise at the co m p letion of the season, wh ic h leaves on ly the indoor racing fo r so u the rn O rego n ian s. Speaking of southern O regonian s, o ne of th e ho ttest up and co m ing riders is Klum , a hefty rider wh o had fire in his eyes as he roIled his machines to th e line to top his heats , tu rn ing right around to come back to tac kle the 250cc T rophy dash an d ou tdista nce Ro bert H o rban (Ya m Sports Center) for th e win. Klum was ready to go, settli n g into the lead o nce aga in to tak e a P ro Money da sh o ver Reynard , who would be his closest riva l a ll throug h the evening. Wh en th e mains got to the " bigger" disp lacement races, Rod Bixe l (Grants Pass Su z) gave the specta to rs what they had p aid to see (a killi ng) in th e 125 A main. Bixel had a lo ne ly win, ridi ng o u t fro nt all alone after Chris H orban (Yam Sports Center) di d a nas ty so u thern O rego n so il sa mple, los in g it a t 55 mph. Bixel wo n a nd padded his p oints lead. There was n o doubt on anyone's m ind that th e 250cc A main was the best ra cing to be seen as l O a f th e area's hottest riders were o n th e li ne, rea dy to stage an all out feud . Klu m sh ot - off th e line with a two bi kelen gth lead on H orban , Ch ris Horban and Reyna rd. No one even da red to attem pt to put a pass on Klum , bu t the n again there wasn 't anybody close eno ug h as th e deadly duo of H o rb a n brothers fell p rey LO Rey na rd, who soo n whittled down the lea d that Klu m had bu ill up. Klum had other ideas o n his mind as he sh u t th e door on Reyn a rd , ta king a look over hi s sho u lder just in time to see Reyna rd tangle with a la p p er and go do wn, gi vin g Klum a n easy wi n o ver th e Horbans in seco n d and third , with Reynard remo u nting for fou rth ahead of Bruce T urn bu ll (Suz) and AMA Novice Bob Ingel (Yam). The P ro Mo n ey race was a bar ba ngin' race righ t off the line, as Klum took co mmand into tu rn o ne. With the loo t on th e line, it' s su rpris ing how much moreenthusiasticeveryone gets whe n th e g reen stuff co mes out. Klum and Reyanrd took off whe re they left off, as Reynard stayed on two wheels th is time and the tw o set ou t tow ard th e ch eckered fla g. KIu m kept hi s ins ide li ne a nd is defin i tely ki n g of the low line wi th Reynard ri d in g h ig h . The bar bangin ' co ntin ued la p after lap and the racing wa s j ust as fierce for th ird between Joe Klum (H a n ) and In gel. Klu m held o n all the way to th e checkered flag a nd seco n d was Reyna rd . Joe Klu m won his ba ttle for third money over In gel , who co uld n 't get around Joe Klum throug h the final turn.
