The $ 1000 Pro purse ra ce wa s only part of theexcitement. Ken ny Zahrt made a su ccessfu l jump of 125 feet on hi s Honda CR480. Two ro ck ba n ds and a wet T -sh ir t contest lured most of-the crowd into th e p ark, but whatever th eir reaso n wa s for co ming-to the Dunes, few left unsatisfied , a nd the rain didn 't stop th e action. Kawasaki factory rider Kyle Lewis brought out his 1983 Kawasaki 60 and 80 water-cooled machines. Last week Lewis showed what he could do on the J u n ior Cycle, and he roosted on the class again tonight. He took the 60cc Expert wi n over Danny " D u n es" Lam b on a Dick Allen Yamaha. The 80cc Expert class was a clean victory for Yamaha su pported Bobby Moore who won both mo tos. The Kawasaki riders, " Wild Willie" Surratt and Kyle Lewis, had to follow the fast Yamaha r ider. T ractio n was a problem in the final round of action, and Lewis dro p ped h is machine o n the seco nd tu rn. After that, th ere wa s no catchin g up to Moore and "Wild Willie. " Moore took home the top trophy over Will ie a nd Lewis. More than a few riders bailed over the new section of jumps. In the final moto o f the 125 Junior d ivisio n one race, first moto winner Guy Arnone followed Paul Thompso n. Thompson really improved h is tally, because he placed last in th e first moto. (lid throughout the 125cc Pro's first moto, barely ahead of Gary Bowman in third with Roger Hensley and Willy Simons rounding out the top five. This was a qualifying run for the California Racign Club's Nov. 7 San Diego Stadium race. When then men gathered on the grid for their second round, it was O'Mara and Bowman, drag racing for the lead with O 'Mara taking charge. A.J. was a close third and Hensly fourth, Mike Larson zoomed in , rounding out th e top five. O'Mara pulled away, leaving in his wake a bone-jarring charge between Bowman, Hensley and Whiting that carried them down to the finish line. O 'Mara wheeled h is American Honda machine into the winner's circle, Bowman cinched second place loot and gathering third overall honors with a 2-4 ride was Whiting. The 80cc Stock-Beginners, divisions one a nd two , tumbled onto Shadow Glen and gave th eir fans one of the tightest races of th e day. Throughout th e pack, duels were the name of the ga me.
