LOOKING BACK
We featured a reproduction of artist David B. Mattingly's latest poster
"Flying High" on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago... Our Rider of
the Year, voted by the readers of Cycle News, was for the fourth year in
a row Louis McKey, aka, Phantom Duck of the Desert... We featured
interviews with Dale Singleton, Mark Barnett, Dick Burleson, Broc
Glover and Kent Howerton... We tested the Bultaco 340 Sherpa
trials bike and Honda XR250R off-roader... We recognized some of the
mechanics on the National MX circuit.
We printed the final issue of 1971 and looked into the future of
motorcycling, focusing on what it might cost to ride in the new year...
Helmets: which ones are good, which ones are not. We explained how
to tell a good helmet from a bad one... We looked at some of the more
technically advanced production motorcycles from several the major
manufacturers... We interviewed Gene Romero... Before Evel Knevel
there was Captain Putt Mossman, aka, The Prince of Daredevils. We
featured an article on Mossman.
