Our cover story 50 years ago was the history of the Honda NR750... We
had interviews with champions Mike Kiedrowski, Thomas Stevens and
Ryan Young... We also chatted with Ricky Graham... Malcolm Smith,
Joe Parkhurst and Chuck "Feets" Minert were just some of the stars
that came out to play at the Laugh-In
Trophy Trials. Smith had the most
fun—he won... Danny Hamel won
the Best in the Desert Laughlin Hare
Scrambles. He also wrapped up the
Grand Slam Championship.

Ricky Carmichael was our 2001 Cycle News Rider of the Year and
was pictured on the cover of our year-end issue... Issue #50 included
interviews with champs Valentino Rossi, Mike Brown and Chris
Carr, among others... We had race coverage of the Vegas 200. Kellon
Walch and Shane Esposito teamed up for the win... We also had
coverage of the Florida Winter Olympics. Suzuki rider Josh Woods

Baja 1000, a Honda XR600 fitted with an American
Honda 628cc-kitted motor, assembled under the
watchful eye of Bruce Ogilvie. We finished fourth
in Class 30, 18th overall. (Below) We hung out with
Supercross and 125cc National Motocross Champion
Mark Barnett at his home in Alabama 40 years ago.
