LOOKING BACK
In our 32-page issue of Cycle News 40 years ago, we tested the
new 1982 Yamaha YZ250J motocrosser, which was pictured on the
cover. It featured water cooling and Yamaha Power-Valve System
(YPVS). The YZ sold for $2179, and we said that it was simply a great
motorcycle... Chuck Stearns won the SGVMC Beatty-to-Las Vegas
Hare & Hound race.
Santa Claus on the roof was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years
ago delivering a new motorcycle and a bag full of motorcycle goodies...
We featured an interview with fast-rising motocross star Bob Grossi, who
said he hoped to be a world champion someday... Rich Thorwaldson
continued to dominate the desert-racing scene after scoring another
victory at Red Rock Canyon, California... Marty Tripes topped a stellar
250cc Expert field at a local CMC motocross at Carlsbad Raceway.
