I I I I I I I I I J I I I I I I ~---------------------~ Hobbs hobbles Denton Pros ning both 125cc Expert races in a convincing manner. Liedberg jumped into the lead off the start in the first race only to coast to a halt with his gas shut off, but a restart was ordered and that was the last chance the other Ex pe rts ha d to get a close look at the speedy Kawasak i rider. Roger Zeeman was a distant second and Warren Lewis took third. Scott N iels on built u p a good lead in the 250cc Expe rt's first moto, then fell and, just as Joe Warnick and Jeff Barnes came thundering up expecting to take over the lead, Nielson pushed his bike out of a soft berm and across the track, blocking Warnick .and Barnes long enough for Nielson to hop on and tak e off in the lead again. Nielsen handily won both motos. Stephen Fullmer ended a slump by topping a large field of 250cc Amateurs. Fullmer split wins with Morga n Will iam s who fin ished second, just beating Russell Banks. Open Expert J eff Boyd gathered everyth ing together to eke out a narrow win over Scott Jewett in the tough big-bike cla ss. Rhett Greenhalgh fell while leading th e second moto and was relegated to third. Chris Dever overcame lousy starts in both Open No vice events, but managed to win one and place second in th e other for an overall win. Mark Ahlin took second and Steve Hansink, winner of th e first rnoto, took third. Brett Gates and Gregg Jasperson were 250 Novice survivors and winners in division one and two while Dave Gottfredson had a cou p le of workouts moving up through the pack for firsts in the 80cc Novices. Brad Lewis embarassed the 80cc Amateurs, winning the first moto by a huge margin, then got off in the second moto, dropping to last, but was still able to catch and pass the field for his second win. Ranch Pratt came out on top in the hotly contested 80cc Expert class. Corky Maughan and Vince Barnes each had a sh ot at first with a win apiece, bu t Maughan DNFed the first moto after getting off in the lead and Barnes fell trying to pass the leader in the second moto. Casey Newberry took second and Barnes was able to salvage a third overall. . Jay Neve put together ' two wins, the first a flag-to-flag lead, and the second a scrambling work-up from back in the pack to beat I25cc Amateurs Craig Wayman and Lyndon Jones. Jones salvaged a third with some nifty catching up after falli ng back in the early going. DENTON, NB, JULY 25 By Denton Motocross C lub The Denton Mo tocross Club held their second race of the season today with a large crowd on hand to watch some spectacular racing. The ne w Su percross style track has really caught on because of its exciting action. The Experts , as usual, proved their abil ities to pass and di sp layed wheel to wheel racing. Mike Boston swept the first moto of the 250cc Expert event followed by Greg Thiess and eventual winner Terry Hobbs . Mark Urbach rode hard, but could only manage fourth after a last place start. In the second moto, Hobbs took the win after Boston broke a foot peg, which dropped him back to sixth by the finish. Terry Sims finished second after a good start and Thiess took third after working up through the pack. Boston couldn' t pull off a 125cc Expert victory after aggravating a kn ee inj ury. That left Tom Price taking both motos for the overall. From second place down to sixth, it was anyone's race as Don Raskey, Lance Tucker, Glen Sterling, Den n is Hoff and T racy Bouge took their turns stuffing each other. When the smoke had cleared, Ra skey had second, Tucker third and Bouge fourth. In the 250cc B class, the top five riders changed positions several times in both motos. Tyler Phelps came out on top after finishing fourth in the first moto and taking first in the second. Tim Kelly rode consistenly with a 3-2 finish to take second. In third place, Doug Smith could do no better then fifth after a second in the first moto. Results MI NI A : 1. David Antin oro; 2. Casey W inkel; 3. Todd Splain. MI NI B: 1. Jimmy Graher; 2.
