Rosales roosts CRC mad Minis By Lee Taylor VALENCIA, CA, AUG. 13 Mini Madness ran rampant over the Dunes tonight. The second division of the 80cc Benginners were a p rim e exam pl e. Compared with what lay in store, the firs t rnoto was relatively sa n e . R a nd y Moseley, aboard a Yamaha for his dad , jumped off th e line and left a five-way duel for second far behin d . With changes at every turn from second on back, p ar ents a nd .frien ds were bou ncing off the wal l. When th e checkered fla g waved the m back to th e pits, Mo seley led th e wa y, Suzuki of Van Nuys entry Ronnie Rosales en ded up in second followed by Murp h y H unshn in third. The secon d round errup ted with Mo seley once more lea ding th e wa y. Peter Jerina was in th e runner-up slot an d Rick Reybank was tentati vely holding third. From fourth on back , racers were mere inches apart, catapu lt ing over the whoops. Rosales was wickin g it an d lost n o ti me in ta king ' cha rge of th e pack, holdin g Moseley off by one an d one-half m ini bikelengths. When the racers came home, Rosal es smelled the roses, Moseley cinch ed second place and jerina 's 4-3 tally brought third overall honors. Yamaha-mounted, Jeff Reyn olds took an im pressive pair of back-toback wins for the Mini Intermediates. Reynold 's first moto was spectacular. Sharing the track with the Experts, Reynolds took command and hel d the number one tra ck position , over the Experts a n d Intermedia tes, down to the wire. G ary R iekki, riding a Yamaha for Speed Marine, put in a n impressive performa nce in seco nd, holding Answer Products entry Doug Fisher to third. . Second time around wa s a carbon copy for th e top three with back to back wins going to Reynolds, second place to Riekki (2-2) and third place to Fisher (3-3). Results 60 NOV: 1. Barr bags Vets atOC/RMX By Steve Crosby IRVINE, CA, AUG. 12 With most everyone back from their Ea stern tours a n d the others recovered from the Superbowl, the p its have"been very cro wded a t th e Orange County Intern ational Racewa y Motocross. This week all the Pro clas ses were of good _ size, m ak ing heft y p ayouts for all th e winn ers. Ya maha support rider Taylor Marcell took th e 125cc class ove r Chris H einrich and Dean Cates . Todd Peterson was once again in control of th e 250cc class with Jim Brodie and R ich Collins secon d a nd third each mot o . T he Open Pro wi n went to Bria n Fry aboard his Honda with Dan Berg finishi ng second overall. The size of the Vets class varies from week to week , depending on who has en oug h en ergy to loa d up their bike and haul it out to the races. This week th ere were seven stalwart competitors. In th e first moto, Bob Barr took th e lead on the first lap and hel d back the challenges of Bert Wehr and then R ichard Long. In the second moto, Barr started back in the pack and had to work h is way up to the lead slow ly. O n the th ird lap he moved into second, h aving caught Weh r. With two laps left, he ca u gh t Long a nd rode h is Honda to a pe rfect score for the night. Long had a pair o f seconds on his Yamaha and Wehr's Maico was third. In O pen Begin ner , th e overall win went to Covina Yamaha-backed Jeff Weideman. Weideman took the first moto easil y with Steve Snook's Maico second a nd Tim Kilgore's Yamaha third. In th e second moto, Snook took th e holeshot and h eld back Weideman for several laps. Finally, with two laps remaining, Weid eman took the lead. Snook made a charge to regain the lead on th e last lap, bu t went do wn a nd h ad to settle for third. Weid eman had th e ove ra ll with Kilg ore's 3-2 just n udging out Snook's 2-3. T h ere were two di visio ns of 250cc Begin n ers again this week. In the fir st division, T im Long rode his Kawasaki to a 2-1 for the overall. Richard Harding, who won the first moto, was second with a 1-4, and Alan Bash a m 's 4-3 took home the th ird p lace trophy.
