Rodriguez, Wageman wipe up atAMEDunes By Tom Corley . VALENCIA, CA, JULY 30 The 1982 Maico-Cross1ine Summer Series is proving to be the high point of the Friday night season at Indian Dunes. ~ 28 There is $40,000 in contingencies being offered to the Amateur and Pro rider who takes a top position while wearing a Crossline jersey and havinga Crossline sticker on the front fender. Tonight marked the third of the five race series. The heavy Pro winner was Russ Wageman who took his Kal-Gard supported Suzuki to the I 25cc Pro victory over rival Bob Kline. Wageman scored a second important win in the 250cc Pro class by defeating Jim Holley and Ken z'ahrt. To the series sponsors' delight, Randy Rodriguez scored with the 500cc Pro title on his Wheelsmith Maico. Anybody who spectates these Friday night races knows that Russ Wageman and Bobby Kline go together on a race . track like oil and water. The battle sometimes continues after the checkered flag. BK had the first moto rally to himself with Wageman and Jim Simons coming from behind. In the final bout, Wageman had the upper hand with BK taking second and Simons in third again . Wageman earned the top money over BK, Simons and Bruce Maynor. Wageman got the jump on the 250cc Pro pack in the Iirstmoto and this helped him take the win over Kawasaki's Zahrt, who was able to hold off charging Jim Holley. Final moto action saw Wageman get the jump once more, but it only lasted a lap as Rusty lost it on the finish corner and allowed Holley to soar by. There was no passing after . that. Overall it was Wageman, Holley and Zahrt. . Results 60JR: 1. Sean Blanchard (Yam); 2. Joel Tokarsky (Yam); 3. Keith Bowen (Yam). 601NT: 1. Joe Brown (Yam). 80 8EG: 1. Brian Felix (Yam); 2. Cannon cashes in at CMC Ascot ST By Maureen Lee GARDENA, CA, JULY 29 Tonight's best racing at the Continental , Motosports Club Ascot short track had to be the fight between Chris Cannon and Jimmy Rosa for the control of the 500cc Pro class. First race, Rosa got out front fast, then Cannon, Dan Kane, Joel Windham and Merlyn Plumlee. They all held those positions and Cannon was worrying away at Rosa's rear wheel. First he'd come up on the inside, then the outside, and each time Rosa would get a good peek at that front wheel slongside his leg ...talk about maintaining your cool. Finally, Cannon pulled up alongside, buton that attempt still couldn 't quite make it. Coming around for th e flag, he tried again, .it worked and Chris got to the line first. Roger Thompson started the evening on a high that became a crashing low on the last lap of the 250cc Money TT. Thompson had the lead till the last lap when mechanical problems took him out with one turn to go and all he could do was watch Greg Nelson on his Orange County . M.e. Yamaha go by to pick up the gold. , Things were working much better in the 250cc Money half mile as he did go wire to wire, with no problems, to take the win over Nelson. In the Open Money half ·mile, Thompson had to work a little bit harder as Jim Rosa got the jump at , the start with Dan Kane in second and Thompson third. On the second lap, Rosa was out of it when he ran out of gas and Thompson had gotten by Kane and was king of the mountain . It was all over from that point on. . John Barricklow and Don Meiner fought tooth 'n nail for the wins in the Open Amateur classes. In the TT, Meiner got a super start while Barricklow found himself in last. Cary Tanner, down from Palo Alto on a small vacation for an internship as an orthopedic doctor, was second and Dave Alexander had the third. Barricklow was on the move immediately. He had himself in second by th e third lap. Meiner went on the defensive and in th e drag race to th e finish line, took th e win . Barricklow was second and Alexander got by Tanner for the third. On th e half mile, Meiner again went out on top with Bob Graves second and Barricklow third. With three laps down, Barricklow was knocking on' Meiner's door and on the fifth lap he had claimed the lead. • ~ , ,. , _ ~ : ,. J Results SHORT TRACK 250 NOV: 1. Ron Stable (Hon); 2.
