His Yamaha burned up the turf in a duel with Gary Denton, T o ny Gomez and Mike Beier that went from wire to wire throughout bo th motos. The first time out Denton grabbed the holeshot and tried to fight off Kehoe, but Kehoe eventually got out in front. With Gomez in third and Beier fourth, the action was hot and intense! Gomez then caught fire , tak ing over second and leaving a battle between Denton and Beier that carried them down to the wire with Den ton holding onto third. Their second .round was just as mad! Blake, Beier, McMahon, Zitterkopf , and Schlegel all powered to the front as the second moto got underway. Blake looked to have things under control for the first few go-'ro u nds , but McMahon pressured for the lea d and slipped past when Blake bo bb led. Beier moved up to challenge Blak e and the two more experienced Na tional riders finally disp laced McMahon to third. Beier danced into the lead and pulled away fro m Blake as th e moto wound down. By Pam Hardin PHOENIX, AZ, J U L Y 24 Ch appy Blose , preparing for two weeks of racing in the -Pacific Northwest, blew away the field of 10 250cc Experts with back to back wins at Canyon Raceway. ' For Blose the 250s seemed more like a cakewalk than a race . Bu t the race for second was a different story; , Pat Imbriale had the slightest of leads over his brother john. The Yamaha rider in second just kept th e throttle open and took his lines, leaving his brother to get out of shape while try ing every move in the book to get by. By the fourth lap Blose had a good 10-second lead over the Imbriales. O n the fifth lap john Imbriale finally stole seco nd , and his brother was in jeopardy of having h is th ird taken away by Bruce Peters. Peters gassed his green machine to take third, but the ' wa sted time beh ind Imbriale left him six seco nds behind a seco nd place fin ish . The second moto of the 250s saw Blose once again take the lead wi th Pat Imbriale gassing it at the last second to lead R ick Nagle out of the first turn. john Imbriale trailed behind in fourth, but not for long. Nagle was left to reminisce about the first turn action of a few laps earlier, and Imbriale had his brother in sight with half the race gone. Nagle then made a crucial mistake, losing all control and lett ing Peters slip by. With Blose way ahead, Pat Imbriale ate it and ended up in fourth behind Nagle. With pressure from Im bri ale , Nagle was passed within a: lap and went completely ou t of contention while .proving the great truth in his nickname, "The Wildman." Results 80 BEG: 1.
