Robinson, Car r illo lead Baylands STshow By Bill Spencer FREM O NT, CA, J UL Y 28 Rocky Robins o n topped Kingof-the-Bay racing action tonigh t in Fremont, CA. Steve Ca rr illo was the 500cc Expert victor and Keith Day romped to a 250cc Expert win as Baylands Ra cewa y Park continues to u pgrade its tra ck. T he District 36 following apprecia tes the im provements and continues to grow in size. . There was little challenge in the 500cc Expert main as Steve Ca rrillo and Danny Mal£a tti got off the line well, before Carrill o showed his stuff and dis appeared to win big on the XR500 Honda. Chris Paulson mo ved thro ugh the pa ck well for a good second, followed by John Tavis, Joe Flowers and Mal£atti, who was riding Billy Scott 's TT500. Dave Caballer has learned hi s startin g lessons well and too k off once agai n in the King-of-the-Bay money race. Troy G raha m fell off and Pa ulson took over th e leading chores on the second lap with Carrill o fo llowing the example the next time aro und. Rocky Robinson was biding h is time . well with smooth pa sses; he too k over second on th e third la p and bega n pushi ng ha rd on Carrill o th rough the next few laps. Rocky made a good move towards the end as th ey ent ered the first turn , still tacky fro m th e early sessions, and go t away cleanly, taking the win and the loo t over Carrill o and Pa u lson . Shaw n McCo im still domina tes the 250cc Pros on his CR250R, despite much competition , while Rod Sm ith kept it together in the 125cc Pro class on h is R M. Ano ther pair, Larry Dashiell and J im Ingl ebrig h t, ran off wi th the Open money and bea t ou t ol d time Pro J im Turner. Sm ith had h is R M at the forefro nt of the troops in short style in round one of 250cc Pros with only McConn a ble to sta y close; then Sm ith 's luck tu rned. The whole rear whee l assem bly came adr ift and stopped ri ght on line. After doing so well a t the Su perbowl last week, until the last two la ps, it was a bitter d isap pointment. McCo n n soon disappeared with the first round win, Doug McR ae taking second on the Haywa rd Yamaha and John Beeman high-Hying to third. Smi th found a frie nd who lived close by and by the second round he was back in the lead and was never headed for the moto win. McConn stuck close and wound up with the overall. Beeman, consistent with a .... pair of thirds, took second over Kenn y Klein and Brett Cahors. It seemed the regular Open Pros weren 't quite ready for the onslaught of new gu ys this week as Maico riders Inglebrightand Dashiell left Jim Saitone's Petaluma Cycle Center for a fun night and won the whole enchilada . Matt Arena had a new RM465 and took second in the first round but DNF the second when the gremlins returned. " Dash " won both motos with Inglebright taking the Bob 's Auto Parts special to 3-2 for second ove rall over fo r m e r Canadia n National Cham p Turner.
