The Open Su perstreet race showed a rema tch of last year's very com petitive champ ion sh i p wi th Denn y Doherty, Tom Orella and John Morena all on the fro n t row. Denny too k the holeshot with his ND/ Martek/ Valvoline Kawasaki; Ronald Weiland, Orella and Morena close behind. Doherty easily moved away fro m the other riders desp ite trou bles with sliding tires fro n t and rear. Orella was having troubles getting arou nd Weiland, until Morena, on his Racer's World/ Dan Vargas Suzuki, passed Orella and Weiland in tu rn one. T his was enoug h to get Orella moving and on the next lap he got by Weiland and Morena both, but by tha t time Doherty was too far in fro n t to catch. Dominie CHICO, CA, J ULY 31 Clint Ballinger, J eff Mendes and Mike Gresham won th e Novice, J unior and Expert 250cc classes, respectively, at Cycleland Speedway's sho rt track today. The 250cc Nov ice main got underway with Clint Ballinger in a commanding seco nd pos ition, coming back after an eig ht week layoff fro m an injury early in the seaso n . Followin g in thi rd was J oey Bolen , followed by Mike Fudge in fourth. Ballinger kep t the pressure on, moving in to first a nd ta king th e flag followed by Bole n in second and Fudge in third . The Junior 250cc main had some ' hard riding by J eff Mendes in third position. Mendes was hot afte r Gresh am in first and Clay Hodges in seco nd. Gresham pulled ou t wit h mechanical problems , leaving Hodges to try and hold off Mendes. H odges was n't to be a spoiler th ough, as Mendes had other plans . Mendes stayed on the gas to get by H odges for a first p lace finish. Whe n the green flag dropped in the 250cc Expert main, Mike Ca gle showed the rest of the pack where the first corner was. Freeman fill ed in the second spot with Gresham , in pursu it. By lap th ree, Gresham had moved Freeman back to third pl ace. G resha m then proceeded to p ressure Ca gle, waiting to make his move; he too k co mmand of first pl ace by wh ite flag time. Gresham was followed by Cagle and Randy Freeman . Results PEE WEE: 1.
