With many loca l riders attending the Gold Cup race bei ng he ld to the east in Idaho, some new faces were fo u nd in th e win ner's circle in many classes. T he 125cc P ro clas s sa w H olt wi nning both motos, but not without some stiff co mpe titio n to begin eac h race. Kaw asaki rider Joe Spangler is getting to be quite a holeshot artist around th e area, and today was no exception. Spangler shot to the lead in the first mota with Bellevue Suzuki's Mitch Lorenz, Ted Harry (Suz ), and Honda rider Keith Foidel in tow. Holt wasted no time getting into the lead and ran an excellent mota, winning with room to spare. Lorenz .showed some style, taking second with R W Racing/Yamaha of Salem rider Robby Watilo moving up for third. . In the second mota Spangler again balled into the lead with Hall, McCormick arid Watilo trailing. Holt was back into the lead again with Watilo and McCormick filing in behind. That order held to the flag wi th Holt putting some ground between himself and other riders. Eastside Kawasaki rider Skeet Hise took the 250cc Pro holeshot but had some problems, letting Rick Bozarth, a Gresham Suzuki rider, take his finest ride ta date with a well deserved win. Second was Watilo, and third was Crisman. The second mota saw Yamaha rider Dave Heuinga lead the whol e race until Crisman pulled to within striking distance on the I~st I~p; the tW? raced side by side until Cnsman deci ded he wanted to take over. Anderson ambushes Montana GoldCups By Brian Barnes MISSOULA, MT, J ULY 3 CORVALLIS, MT, J ULY 4 MX Fox/Yamaha support ace Jimmy Anderson traveled all the way from his home in Longview, WA, to dominate Montana 's Gold Cup rounds and sew up the 1982 Yamaha Perpetual Gold Cup Series Championships in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. Missoul a Anderson took both wins in 125cc Pro with another Washington hotsho t, Robb Manning (H i-Point/American Han ) taking both runner-up spots. Yet another Washington rider, Don Gores (Olympic Yam), went 4-3 to ta ke third overall. Gary Kuest, fro m Airway H eights Yam a ha in Sp ok ane, wa s fourth , and Lola, Monta na 's own Kevin Little (Suz) struck a blow for the home state fans with a fifth .' . In 250cc, Burgett was able to wr estle the wi n a way from Anderso n with a last-lap pass. Burgett and Idaho's Warren Hickman (Ya m) took seco nd and third with Burien Suzuki rider Danny Diesso fourth, Bryan H ayes , a Yamaha rider all the way from Arizona, grabbed fifth. In Open Pro, Highland Hon~a/ H i-Point rider Bob Buffaloe ran first from start to finish on his CR480 to take a very well deserved first overall. Leon McDonald held Burgett at bay for all but the most important lap, th e last one, with Burgett scooting by to take second. McDonald was a strong th ird. Manning guided his Honda in for a fourth, a Maico Northwestmounted SCOll Tyler was fifth . As mentioned earlier, Anderson sewed up both the 125 and 250cc Pro Gold Cup titles with only three races remaining. Anderson 's record speaks for itself as he won eight of II races in th e 125cc Pro class and seven of II in 250cc, showing everyone his titles are very well deserved. Eng regained fo~rt~ but crashed in the turn three halrpm on the final lap. The rain brought down many riders, including Daryl Eng (also Honda mounted), Web and Ben Beste and others. Brother, what a storm! .
