The nearly total absence of the barbarians fro m the North must have contri buted to gentlemanly conduct, as th ere were few crashes, despite fierce competition in most races. G ene Bro wn established a record of some sort by racing in every h ea t of a two-round, seven -race forma t. Bro wn posted two firsts (in Formu la T wo a nd 850cc Ca fe), a second, a third, two fifths and a sixth for his efforts an d moved in to a comman ding lead for season points and a re pe a t of last year' s win of the Oregon n u m ber one p la te. Brown won tha t class when Guth rie, who had won th e first heat, crash ed while in the lead in the second heat. "Temporary insanity," said Guth rie. Don Horn made Brown wo rk for second pl ace in 430cc Prod uction, and Dawley pressed h im again in Formu la One. The p henomenal part of " Iron Man " Bro wn 's performance was that h e was clearly faster in the second round of heats. The P inkstaffs had a superb racing day. Howard won Open Single GP on his Garner Yamaha-sp o nsored th um pe r, in addition to ge tting in to the track free because he was accompanied by h is son, Keith . I t was Father's Da y, you know.
