(Below) Mickey Dymond Maico-powered to the SSM Open Pro win. At the front of the pack McGough continued to eat up the track with Mike Forzano moving up to second and jamming close behind. With pressure from Forzano, McGough took a detour through a crowd of spcetators after taking the whoops a little too hard. That left the race to Forzano, but Espey was right on his tail. Forzano held off Espey long enough to take the checkered first. In the second moto, Brian Tyler jammed on to lead the pack of Novices with Bruce Berkley following. By the third lap, Forzano took over second and looked for a spot to pass Tyler. Tyler, Forzano, Berkley and Jeff Conradson cruised about 10 seconds ahead by the fourth lap. Berkley DNF with a couple of laps to go . Results 38 VZINGER: 1. Timmy Clatone (Ita); 2. Chucky Cook (yam): 3. Kevin Kinman (Yam). PEE WEE STK 7-11 NOV: 1. Damon Watk ins (Yam); 2. All CMC Ascot ST . money for Hames By Maureen Lee GARDENA, CA, JUNE 10 The promise of Ascot 's Continental Moto-sport Club short track brought out more riders this evening, plus a goodly Results number of great)ittle Karts and Odysseys, the coverage of which is in the next issue of ATV News. The 250cc Junior/Intermediate races were good. Orlando Lamboy won overall with two straight, chased in by Ken Barrow in the first round and Jeff Runyan in the second. Steve Honeycutt won the 500cc Junior class. He and Jeff Runyan were running side by side at times with Jeff actually scoring the win both rounds, but they caught him riding his 250 in the 500cc class, and he got busted, so Steve got first. Tony Herrera came in second on a really superior looking bike even if it was popping when he backed off and smoked a bit . New engine perhaps, but it didn't slow down his performance an y, and he stayed ahead of David Dungery who was doing some come-from-behind kind of stuff each race. Most fun racing of the evening (except for the four-wheelers) was the 500cc Pros. Pete Hames and Bud Carroll spent the two races doing neat things to each other, practicing the close-in stuff you have to get used to when you earn that white place and bang handlebars with the big boys. Actually, they carried it over into the Open class, too, with Carroll staving off Pete for quite a while - until Hames finally got by without getting his foot run over. Nothing dirty going on , just clean, hard racing. First round of the 500s also had a good fight between Roger Thompson and Rob Ely, who was hard put to get around the youngster. Finally, on the last lap, he got inside of him on the back straight and got to the checkered nag first. The 250cc Pro contest went to Hames, too, making it three in a row for "T he Simi Flash ." Behind Hames, Jeff Springman, Mike Kirb y and Carroll saw plenty of act ion, including Carroll dumping it in th e second round, causing a restart. Springman grabbed the lead and held it to the end in that one. Chris Cannon got a good start first race but still gets plagued with mechanical woes and can't get to mix it up with the frontrunners. . ,. • " .,. MINI : 1. James Josephson (Hon). 125 JR: 1. Absurd AI tops OTHG Saddleback MX By Mike Wilcock ORANGE, CA, JUNE 6 "Absurd" Alan Olson totally dominated the Expert class at today's OverThe Hill Gang MX as he led both motos start to finish. Alan also rode the CMC Intermediate class and proceeded to take first overall as he showed everyone that Saddleback was definitely his home track. Bentover Bill is on the comeback trail as he rode two consistent motos to place 2nd overall for the day. Roll over Rick started out strong in the first moto but fell back in moto two. He rode to a fourth place finish with Jelly John taking third. Maico-rnounted Jaws John put the horsepower to the ground as the Amateur class blasted off behind the Experts. As the dust cleared, it was Good Bye Gary and Runover Ron banging handlebars for second and third place with Gringo Glen runn ing a strong fourth. John held on and took first overall for the day with Good Bye Gary right behind him in second. In the Intermediate class, the first moto saw Silicone Sal, Jumpin' Jack and Maico Mike steadily pull away .: frp~ the.rest.of the pack,a.s they were
