In the featured O pen Superstreet/GP class, Rich O liver put in a pair of consistent ri des to gra b th e over all win aboard h is big Kawasa ki superbike, not q u ite th e hot set- up on the tight, slick, rough three-fourths-mi le track. _The crowd favorite anddefinitely one of if not the fas test r rders..had -to be Honda 's Robert o Pietri aboard Steve Wise's backup TT bike, a CR480R with shortened suspensio n, narrower bars, a front disc brake a n d DTIIs. Falls cost P ietri th e wi n in th e first h eat and the first " rno to ." In moto one, Pietri and Yamaha TZ250mounted Dave Busby put on a pass/ repass show that had th e crowd ro a ring, but both went down , a nd a red flag restart due to an injured rider, had both riders crossing th e fin ish lin e inc hes apart and the apparent win ners . A lap check la ter revealed them to be a lap down. Cressa moved into first place before the en d of lap one but righ t on his back was Rya n . The two first a nd second place riders diced back and forth through all eigh t laps of Ma rysv ill e's rough terrain , but the chec kered went to Ryan. Second was Cressa , and third went to Spoof Pena on a Honda who held off T im Leal. In th e second rnoto, Tim Aston on a Kawasak i p u lled th e holeshot and was out o f sight fro m start to finish. Steve Richards held second for most of the race , bu t Rya n , wh o was recovering from a last place start, mo ved th rough th e pack. With th e white fla g out, R ya n passed Richards and took second; R ichard s was third, and fourt h place went to Pena who held off Willie Miller. Dave Co upe domina ted th e 250cc P ro class in bo th motos . Coupe took a pair of firsts for a first overall. Second overall went to Dan Turner, and Scott Rebuck placed thi rd overall. The Open Pros were dominated by Randy Losh. In rn o to one Larry Dashiell holesh ot th e race followed by J im Inglebright and Losh. Out of the back section ca me Losh followed by Jim Ellis on a Honda. Losh and Ellis stayed firs t and second thro ugh o u t the moto, Third place went to Scott Rebuck a n d fourth to Dave Wood. By Brian Barnes SAN DY, OR, JUNE 20 On a perfect day for ra cing, 350 riders showed u p to do battle at Mt. View Ra ceway for this year 's nin th race of t he $75 ,000 Yamaha Perpetu al Gold Cup MX Series. J im Anderson and Rick Burgett , both riding Moto-X Fox /Yamaha su p port mach ines, ro de to solid victo ri es in th eir classes, alt hough An derso n won both 125 and 250cc Pro wh ile Burgett took Open and fin . ished third in 250. As an added attraction, four local females competed in a special mudwrestling match that saw a huge crowd gather nea r the finish line during halftime to wat ch all the festivities. Mike McCormick rocketed to a beautiful holeshot the first mo to of 125cc Pro, but by th e end of lap one was passed by none other than Anderson. Ted H olt (D &: S Cycles Suz), Ron Sun MX Fox/Portland Hon) and Tim Michlitsch (DG / Kaw support), who had started out about 20th place, ran three through five until Sun got by for the runner-up spot at the flag. Holt took a very well deserved third, Michlitsch was fourth, and McCormick dropped back for fifth. Anderson and Sun once again ran 1-2 in the second moto, holding down those positions th e entire race for first and second overall. Michlitsch rode hard and took a third and third overall. Hi-Point/American Honda rider Robb Manning was fourth , and Doug Lange (Bel-Ray/ Va n co u ver Yam) grabbed fifth . A great 250cc Pro program saw Anderson, Michlitsch, Burgett, Sun and just retu rn ed Bob Buffaloe (H iPoint/Highland H on), wh o finished 20th in th e 250cc Nationals this year, p uttin g on one of the finest races to da te in the Go ld Cup. An derson and Michlitsch ran 1-2 in bo th mo tos with Michl itsch holding off An derson in the second for nearly half of the race un til succumbing to An derson's pressure.
