The result was significant not just for the team but for Marquez, who took his first win at a clockwise (predominately right-hander) venue since suffering near career-ending arm and shoulder injuries at the 2020 Spanish MotoGP. Red Bull KTM's Miguel Oliveira was in contention for his first podium since winning at Catalunya before the mid-season break but crashed out of third with five laps to go at turn 14, handing the position to Espargaro. That promoted Zarco to fifth ahead of Rins, Espargaro, Maverick Vinales in his best ride for Aprilia to date, and ninth-placed Luca Marini, who led home brother Valentino Rossi in the latter's final ride in MotoGP in front of his adoring home crowd. There were many crashes during the cold track temps, with Jack Miller, Bagnaia, Jorge MYOWNRACE 44 POL ESPARGARO 2ND MOTOGP "An incredible race and result, beyond just myself I am so happy and pleased for the team, Espargaro said. "They've worked so hard this year, and especially the Japanese staff in our team have lived a hard year away from home, so this result is for them. I was quite tense during the race, to make sure we could achieve this result for the team but on the final laps, everything happened, Pecco crashed, Miguel crashed, I had a track-limits warning on the bike. Today is a day to enjoy as a team, as a group." 5 JAUME MASIA 2ND MOTO3 "The first emo on? Honestly, I'm not super-happy, I felt I lost in the last two laps," Masia said. "I was trying to fight on the last lap but Foggia was amazing today, incredibly fast. I'm happy on one hand be- cause we weren't sure about the bike as this was the first session in the dry. So, I'm pleased and we were strong. I feel ready to fight in the last two races."
