Despite a Herculean effort, Bau- man was unable to fully gather up his works FTR750, ultimately leading to a drawn-out disaster that saw the defending two-time champion sent over the bars after contacting the hay bales. The situation only got uglier when third-placed Sammy Hal- bert had no avenue of escape and plowed into Bauman's fallen machine at speed. The Cool- beth-Nila Racing pilot was sent soaring high into the air before impacting to earth hard down the straight. The race was immediately red flagged as Bauman and Halbert were attended to. The track got really slick a er the water came up. It was super racey and fun. I think Jesse (Janisch) just kind of studied me and what I was doing during the early part of that race.
