For the fo urth week in a row, 36 250 Experts signed in, twenty-eight ending up racing fo r that 10 0% pa yback. Bu t th en this you ngster has a pre t ty fa miliar name: Marty Tripes. Mar ty arrived at the track fresh off an airplane from Georgia, wh e re he won th e 250 National championship eve nt. T he ai rline go t Mar t y he re in time, b u t not his luggage , which of course co ntained all his ridin g gear. Gayl on Mosier ridi n g steadily also came from far back in the fiel d to second with hi s Maico beh ind Marty ' s E lsinore. Rich Ele rsted t is n o w riding fo r AI Anders Bu ltaco and was d oing q uite well until he p ut the Bu lt aco on its side. Terry led it for six lap s with Rex ge lling a bad start and crashing on lap one. Among these there were so me pro fessional h o tsh o ts co ming out to take a shot at the $800 p urs e. T he h ottest ac tio n of the day came fro m th e A merican J awa Ace, Greg R obertson. Gr eg entered both th e 250 and 5 00 classes to d ay, a nd cleaned u p in b oth . In the 250 he h ad lit tle trouble in th e firs t m o to , aft e r working o ff a fair start . Ab oul one th ird of th e way through th e m o to Greg pulled into firs t, never to sec anothe r bi ke co me up behind h im agai n fo r 20 minu tes. But in the second moto , 1\Ir. Elec tric Hair, d Bruce Baron . v ecid ed th at he would take his Bonda on a fas t spree and try to catch the flying R ob e rtson. Greg, thinking that he had it in the bag, started to lo af a bit, th en h ad a touc h of trouble down the start h ill which w as all Baron needed 10 p ull up o n his rear fender. T his w en t on fo r about five lap s, with th ese two wh eel to wheel , until Bar on gave up an d let Robertson win . In the 500 class, R ob ertson almos t won it, but by on ly pl acing second in the seco nd m oto , he an d Jim West were tied on poin ts, with the win ne r being the high est placed in the last mo to , Bu t Greg di dn't give up, Re cently, Saddleback started using the tower hill again, and Greg is the m as te r of this m o un d of d irt. Coming up it he sails, an d going down it, he d oe sn ' t touch ground for a good fo rty feet !!! Any far th e r and h e coul d qualify fo r his pil o t ' s license. Bruce would h ave probably won it had it not been for som e squid cutting h im off as he attempted 10 lap him , putting Baron off into the toolies, and down q uite a fe w places (no t to mention the money he lo st by one kid's du mb m o ve).
