Mark Williams took the lead in the Exp ert Main with Eddie Herrmann sec o nd. Coming into th e first tum. both Hennann an d Mike Elder went down and a res tar t was called. On the res tart, Sonny Burres co u ld n ' t get off th e lin e and AI Brackenberry, slammed into him. Neither was badly hurt. j ust sh aken and an other restart is in order. On the th ird re start . everyone go t off to a fine st art with the excep tio n of Burres, wh o w as h aving clu tc h problems. Williams to ok the lead again on the restart with Re ed second, Gary Brown third and Dave Yost fourth . Dick Wascher moved up to take ove r fourth and began to put pressure on Brown for th ird , finally taking over. Mari nacci. , moving up from eleventh place, grabbed fou rth and made a mo ve on Wasch er to take ove r th ir d. S kiver mo ved up to fifth. All in all , there was a lo t of passin g go ing o n wi th Willia ms and Reed the on ly two riders to m ain tain their spots . Willia ms won the Expe rt Mai n , with Reed seco nd , Marin acci th ird, Wascher fourt h, S kiver fift h , Brown six t h , Yost seve nth, Brackenberry eighth, Ol son ninth and Burres tenth. Herrmann and Elder did no t fin ish. Herrm ann won th e Expert Trophy Dash, taking the lead fro m th e sta r t , with Williams pulling hard in second . Skive r th ird and Burres fourth . Brad Tibbetts mo ved p~t Seaborn to take over third, then b y Lem for second. Graves went off the track in th e dogleg. moving Tibbetts to first and Lein t o second, wi th Lein driving hard and taking over first. Tibbetts looked like he migh t just settle ba ck and take second. wh en all o f a sudden, he began moving up on Lein , driving harder and harder, until he jetted by Lein to grab first. Lein kept the pressure o n for a few laps . th en st arted to drop back . Dodge had m oved into third and wa s h o ld in g it with qu it e a margin over fourth place Seaborn. Tibbetts flew acr oss the finish lin e to take first, with Lein second. Don Dodge third and Seaborn fourth. On the first Ju nior Trophy Dash, the flagman didn't like the start and wa s holding th e red flag up for a restart . Comin g aro und the sweeper, Bo b Cooper's fro n t end broke and he wa s down . He was unhurt, but had to sit on th e side lines and watch the race. On the res ta rt, Mundt took the lead onl y to lose it to Lein. Tibbetts took over second, but we nt to o high in th e co m er and Mu nd t d o ve unde r to regain second. Lein t oo k th e tro phy ho me, with Mund t finis hi ng second and Tibbe tts, third. Bill Oliv e r swooped the Novice clas s ton ight by winn in g his heat, the Trophy Dash and then the Novice Main . Rand y S cism, wh o p laced second to Olive r in th e heat, placed second in th e Main. Ron Ch esn ey , win n er of his heat and second in th e T ro p hy Dash, fini sh ed third in the Main. b y K.K .
