He and Gary Jones were tied in overall points. b ut Marty 's final m o t a win sec u re d him the vic tory. Ricky Jordan rode a Noguchi to third pl ace in his first National ra ce. Pierre Karsmakers turned in three perfect m o ta scores to give Yamah a anothe r win in th e 500 class. John DeSoto used co nsistency througho ut the day to clin ch second ove rall with h is fac tory CZ, while New Englander J immy E llis tu rn ed in the surprise ride of the afternoon and pic ked up th ird o n a stock production Yamah a. 250 NATIONAL Call A ny Time M on. - Fri. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sat. to 5 p. m. The tw o Ho n d a teamsters stayed close together for three laps, th en Marty slid out and turned second position over to Bob Grossi's Husky. Bob didn't have th e time to enjoy his new p osition very long before J im m y Weinert (Kaw) m oved up on him, Their battle went on for four lap s before Bob fell d own and Weinert moved up to c halle nge Gary Jones fo r th e lead . Weinert bl ew b y Jones aft er ab out a lap o f fender bangin g, but a lap lat er G ary go t back aro u nd just th e chec ke red flag came a u t. Marty Tripes rode well e n o ug h to ' m o ve ba ck up th rough the pack afte r hi s spill and place third behind Weinert, with Bob Grossi fourth. Moto two and it was again the dynamic Ho nda duo out in front from the start. Mar ty Tripes wasn't can ten t to finis h behind Gary Jones this ti me, so on th e secon d lap h e p assed Gary , taking over the lead and holding it all the way to the finish , J im my Weinert was handicapped with a p oo r start and spent the ra ce p laying c atc h up to finish fifth , Rick J o rd an rode a Noguchi Yamaha to third, and Rich T horwaldson pla ce d h is fa ctory Suzuki in fo urth , In the final mot o Tripes quickly t o o k th e lead and that was the last anyone saw of the yo ungster for the rem ain der of th e race , incl ud in g Gary J o nes, who agai n fin ished second b ut a littler fu rther back this time . It looked like Bob G ro ssi might give Gary a little tro ubl e during the fir st p art of th e race but a thrown ch ain on the Husky en ded an y ho pes of preventing a Honda benefit.
