I, "the Novice," was o n my way from th e staging a rea to my parking pl ace at a very slo w first gear speed wh en a van pulls o u t in front o f me . The van sto p pe d at the e xit from th e race track, co mp le tely bl o cking my view of th e e xi t. I started to pull along sid e of th e van so ' I co uld ge t in a better position to see the exit when two Junior riders came off the truck at a h igh rate o f speed. O ne was trying to go between me and the van and to avoid a co llisio n I let out th e c1ut cb moving me m ore to the ce n ter. As a resu lt h e missed me and it also killed my engine. At that tim e , Rick Ho cking came around th e van as fas t as th e other and coul d not avo id bitting m e. I d on't like being called a pit ra cer. T his race was- originally held to su p port th e EI Cajon M.C. in th eir stan d agai ns t th e B LM. S hortly a fter th e be n efi t race. the EI Cajon M.C. se t tl ed th ei-;-case with th e BLr.f, a nd we d id not choose t o forward th e funds o f th e ben efit race to th e EI Caj on M.C . in view of the wa y the y settled. We therefore chose to tak e a stand agai nst the BLM in an other way. We have c o m plied with all of the con d ition s o f th e land use permit issued by the BLM with the ex ception of payment o f the S I per rider fee ... .. We feel , f rom a legal standpoint, the BLM is o ut of lin e to co llec t this fee. We have retain ed Mr . Martin Hildreth to carry this to whatever level ne cessary (Mr. Hildreth we felt is ideally suited to handle this as he -is a desert rider and and active me mb e r of a District 3 7 cl u b). I re cently took my 25 0 Pursan g to John's R acing Cy cles in Costa Me sa for repair work and t o have a D & H reed valve installed. Greg, the servic e manager was qu ite helpful and t o ok th e time to explain what was inv o lved and how lo n g th e work would take wi th frie nd ly , honest answers and suggestions. - When I picked my bike up I was really impressed by the q uality o f work. It loo ked as if the 36 Bin g and reed valve had been a fa ctory installation . The performance of th e b ike was great. On T uesday morn ing when I go t to work I received a call from th e service manager. lie wan ted to know how th e bike ran in S und ay 's race, if I was satisfied . and if th ere was an ythin g else he co uld d o .
