Gennai a nd Hocking grabbed m o st of the wins and clippings last year as Novi ces. They had th e ability and th e horsepower wh ile Hockie an d Morrison just had the ability. The four Juniors all look even n ow, which is going to make for a lo ad ed Junior class if one or two more can pop up in the co min g weeks. T he opening ra ce at San Jose last Sunday will be the only Half-mil e run there before the National Ha lf-mile on May 20th. A go o d cro w d and a good track made for a goo d show. As cot will host a "Regional" $3 ,0 0 0 guaranteed purse Half-mil e the Friday night before the San Jose National, givin g the West two big ones on the same weekend for the traveling professionals. San Jose will have a $12,000 National purse, p lu s another $9,000 in contingency. Reports also have it that Tom Rockwo od a nd Terry D orsch have sign ed a fu ll season sponsorship wit h a major motorcycle racin g oil co mp a ny . The total co uld be in the six figu re class. Asc ot is picking up the Junior invitational id ea fo r Nationals and the spo t TT ra ces running there may be th e gu idelines for Junio rs to be eligib le to run a t th e July National TT. The new Expe r t-on ly p rogram an d payoff for a ll dir t Nationals this year is gai n ing a lot of go o d words fro m th e Experts at recen t even ts. The ori ginal payoff has been slightly revis ed by the AMA and lo oks b etter than ever. If a Junior invitational is run along with a Natio n al it will b e for a sep ar a te purse pu t up by the promoter. The new sh o r te r road ra ce format was used for th e firs t time b y the AMA a t Da llas to p ut the " R ace " bac k into road . ra cing. It's a good one and it is goin g . to ge t b etter. At D allas , slow ride rs were ac t ually e limin a te d in th e Semi for th e first time . The result wa s be tter Main even t ra cing an d fewer h azards o n th e tra c k.
