Spillway MX ~ by Mike Anderson SANTA MARIA, CAL., Mar. 11, 1973 - Rick Long finally did it! Livin g u p to everyone's expectations, Ri ck Long (Yam) took the 250 Expert class at Spillway Park but he didn't do it witho ut a battle. Brett Yager (Bul) of Pismo Beach looked like he was going to win going into the last mota. Yager jumped into th e lead of the first moro and held it to the nag with Stan Clay . (Mai) second and Rick Lon third. -g In the second moto Rick edged out Yager for first with Yager taking second an d Clay again third. The third m o t a disaster struck, Yager's bike ran sour. " " :6' Needless to say, Long went on to win . Clay took second and Yager still got third. The outcome of the Open Experts was as much as a surprise to the riders as it was to the spectators. David Czerwinski (Mai) and Sherman Schneller (CZ), both in their first formal Expert race on Open bikes, ran 1-2 all three motos excepting for Schneller who crashed in the last mota. Czerwinski jumped into the lead of all three moto's and would be passed by Sherman and then in tum would be passed back. Czerwinski ended up first with Sherman and Joe Cushaway (CZ) third. c..
