GRANNY RUN II what . 8, 0.. ,... M enduro and the weather comes?) when a> ,... N . ~ ::;; ~ w Z W ..J U >- U other. Oh well, up we went and was it st range riding th ro ugh the falling Snow! We had to stop frequentl y to thaw out our hands on our exhaust pipes, but we were really digging it. I guess we were imagining we were all ISDT riders battling Europe's nasty wea ther in hopes of a gold medal. We weren't even time keeping, just riding as th e slippery terrain permitted. Surprisingly enough we were on ly a minute lat e at the first tw o che cks when word came that they were cancelling the re st o f the run , due to the h eavy snow cond itions further up th e trail. We were disappointed but co uld not fault th e cl ub . Th ey tried thei r , be st u nder most difficult conditi ons. PVDR threw six chec ks at us on th e first loop , five of which were secre t. I like that. It ma kes it mu ch more in terestin g and you h ad to work ' at keeping on time a ll th e time . Th e second loop had two chec ks within th e first eight miles, so it was more of the same . Th ey _ meant it w hen they advertised a good timekeeper's event. PVDR is now trying to decide on wh ether to run the enduro again or just throw out the whole second loop and go with the first loop scores. (Another problem: the tiebreaker chec k was wa y off in time .) If they de cid e to just sc ore the first loop they are in for a lot o f headaches trying to decipher the score cards. Most cards got wet and became illegible. Min e was a pulpy me ss but I go t it fairly well dried out, turned it in, and I hope they can read it. The only criticism of the enduro that I had was t he very poor qu ality o f fin ishing pins. They loo ked like they were punch ed o u t of an old Brew 102 can . Knowin g the PVDR I beli eve they were probably unhappy with the pins too, and it was probably the supplier wh o stuck them with the lack of quality. The women and kids got th eir s for fin ishing th e first loop, and the club will mail out the rest, if they d on't reschedule the run. If the PVDR reschedules the enduro I'll make every effort to b e there . They put on a good event. My thanks to Larry fo r putt ing up with me, tow ing in a friend , tolerat ing having mud thrown in his face , and for leading the way ...
